This provision is good
Children respond well to the childminder's warm and caring nature. She is sensitive to their individual needs and develops close relationships with all the children in her care. As a result, children are happy, and feel comfortable and confident in her home. Children make good progress in their learning and development. The childminder supports children in their play. She encourages their language development through discussions and appropriate questions that enables them to use their thinking skills. This helps to promote skills for their future learning and for starting school. Children experience a very good range of learning opportunities on outings. They travel on public transport to visit places of interest, such as a museum and cathedral in a nearby city. In the community children spend time with some elderly people at a St George's Day celebration. This helps them to gain a good understanding of the world

around them. The childminder observes and assesses children's level of achievement, consults with parents and plans effectively for children's individual learning. As a result, children are effectively supported in their development and feel motivated to learn. Assessments of children's learning show that they are working comfortably within their expected age range. The childminder is fully aware of her responsibilities to meet children's needs in the event of a child protection concern. She keeps up to date with changes through training and reading relevant safeguarding publications.

who attend. This is good
Children are settled and at ease in the warm and welcoming environment. The childminder interacts well with children and is mindful of their ages, learning styles and understanding during activities. For example, during a planned activity with dry cereal, babies are able to use their hands and mouths to explore. Older children are encouraged to use tools, such as, bowls, cups and spoons to scoop and pour. The childminder uses lots of mathematical language and develops children's colour recognition and counting skills. Children develop a love of books and select them independently. The childminder is enthusiastic in her storytelling, motivating children to listen intently. She takes children to the library to choose books that interest them. Parents are very well informed of the daily activities that have taken place and the areas for development that can be supported at home.
p.3
good
The childminder's home is well organised to enable children to move freely and safely in the areas available to them. Children happily approach the childminder. They affectionately tickle the back of her hair when sitting on the floor. Children are learning a good sense of responsibility. They tidy away resources and put them back in their appropriate place. Children behave well, due to good interaction from the childminder and positive encouragement in activities. The childminder encourages children to take turns and gently reinforces that sharing is caring. Routine procedures for handwashing that supports children's understanding of their own personal care are introduced from an early age. Outdoor play is well promoted as a positive learning environment and allows children to be physically active. Children visit parks and activity centres for further physical exercise. Children's safety is paramount, and all areas of the home and garden are safe

and secure. The childminder teaches children about safety and older children know how to leave the home in the event of an emergency.
p.3
provision is good
The childminder reflects on her practice so that that she can develop and implement ideas for improvement. She uses a variety of learning tools, such as training courses and childcare publications to enhance knowledge and practice skills. She meets regularly with other childminders to share good practice. This has a positive impact on the learning experiences provided for children in her care. On the whole, the childminder's policies and procedures are implemented well. However, confidentiality is not maintained effectively when sharing accident records with parents. Communication between the childminder and parents is consistent and effective, ensuring that they work well together to meet children's needs. Parents speak very positively about the childminder and especially like the variety of activities she provides.
