This provision is good
The childminder has created a warm, homely environment. She spends time getting to know children and has developed strong trusting relationships with them. As a result, children are self-assured and happy. Teaching is good. The childminder uses her good knowledge of individual children's interests and learning needs to plan challenging activities. Therefore, children make good progress towards the early learning goals. The childminder focuses well on teaching children key skills, such as language, social and physical skills. This prepares them well for future learning. Children behave very well. They develop positive relationships with other children and learn to take turns and share resources fairly. This is because the childminder provides clear and sensitive guidance about what is expected of them. Partnerships with parents are strong. The childminder has established a two-way flow of information, which promotes consistency of care and learning.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder's programme of professional development does not focus strongly enough on developing knowledge and skills to raise the quality of teaching. Occasionally, the childminder does not give children sufficient time to solve simple problems for themselves.

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector toured the areas of the home used for childminding purposes. The inspector looked at evidence of the suitability of the childminder and other adults in the household, children's assessment records and a sample of policies. The inspector discussed the childminder's self-evaluation form and improvement plan. The inspector considered the views of parents, provided through written feedback.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Children are safeguarded well. The childminder has a secure knowledge and understanding of child protection procedures and knows how to report and refer concerns. She maintains an environment that is safe and supervises children well to minimise the risk of accidents. The childminder has a good understanding of statutory requirements and keeps up to date with changes and reforms by researching information. She holds an appropriate childcare qualification, which has undoubtedly given her a secure knowledge of how children learn. This has a positive impact on the quality of teaching. The childminder has completed essential training, such as first-aid, to support her good practice. However, her programme of professional development is less effectively directed towards raising the quality of teaching to the highest levels. The childminder reviews and evaluates her practice well through self-evaluation, in order to drive improvement. She

gathers feedback from parents and children to ensure that planned developments are relevant and meet the needs of those who attend.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder monitors children's progress successfully through observation and assessment. She plans activities that are purposeful and well matched to children's needs. Children confidently lead their own play as they select resources from the suitable range available to them. The childminder skilfully extends and enhances children's learning by modelling and guiding their play. She encourages them to explore and investigate resources independently. However, on occasions she does not give them sufficient time to solve simple problems for themselves before intervening. Parents are kept well informed of children's progress and contribute to the assessment process. Information about children's achievements is shared effectively with other settings to promote consistency of care and learning.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder has created a nurturing environment where children are content and ready to learn. Good settling-in arrangements are implemented, which ensures that positive relationships are forged from the start. The childminder is playful and makes learning fun. She stays close to children to provide reassurance and offers them praise and encouragement. Therefore, children are motivated, confident and eager to play and explore. Children are physically active and benefit from daily opportunities to play in the childminder's garden. They visit places of interest, which ensures that they gain knowledge of the wider community. Children are provided with healthy meals and snacks and follow good hygiene routines. This supports their good health.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children make good progress in their learning and development because teaching is effective. The childminder places a strong emphasis on equipping children with the personal and social skills needed for future moves to school.
