who attend. This is good

Children make good progress, because the well-qualified childminder successfully motivates and supports their learning. The childminder provides a wide range of resources and learning experiences that reflect children's needs. Children are actively involved in their learning as the childminder encourages children to independently select resources of their choice. She observes children well and plans their interests into activities. Teaching is good and promotes children's language, concentration and sustained interest well. This helps children gain the key skills needed to be school ready. Exciting activities outdoors allow children to enhance their natural curiosity and exploratory skills. Regular exchange of information with parents about children's learning ensures consistency between the home and the childminder's setting.

p.3

good

The childminder provides a warm and welcoming environment, where children quickly settle. She knows the children well, and this helps to ensure that they feel emotionally secure in her care and develop positive relationships with her. Children's independence is effectively promoted through all activities and care practices, helping them to develop good self-care skills. The childminder helps children learn about her expectations. She gently reminds children about the importance of demonstrating good manners. This contributes towards children's behaviour being good and they display politeness. Children benefit from regular trips out in the local area to help develop their social skills, physical well-being and their confidence. They develop positive attitudes to others that help them get ready for the move on to nursery or school.

p.3

provision is good

The childminder has a good knowledge of the learning and development requirements and how to keep children safe. She carries out regular checks of her home to ensure it is safe. The childminder is committed to promoting good quality provision for children and their parents. She takes into account the views of parents when evaluating her provision and has clear plans for improvement. However, she does not focus sharply enough on her professional development to raise the quality of teaching from good to outstanding. Her practice does not always demonstrate first-rate knowledge of how to extend children's learning. The childminder plans a range of activities which children enjoy and become involved in. She uses assessment effectively including the progress check for children between the ages of two and three years. Effective partnerships with other settings help to maintain continuity for children at the childminder's home, and at nursery and school.
