Holyrood Day Nursery Princes Dock Liverpool L3 1DL Our Reference EY424052

p.1

Monitoring for provision judged as inadequate

An Ofsted inspector, Elizabeth Grocott, monitored your provision on 18/08/2015 following your inspection where the provision was judged to be inadequate.

p.1

Outcome of monitoring

As a result of our inspection on 05/05/2015, we sent you a welfare requirements notice. If you were set actions at the inspection, or as a result of our subsequent monitoring or investigations, these are included at the end of this letter.

p.1

Outcome of monitoring

The welfare requirements notice required you to comply with the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage under the following requirements, Suitable people, Staff qualifications, training, support and skills and Key person. The steps you were required to take were detailed in full in the notice sent to you on 19 May 2015. You were also sent notices to improve in relation to; Staff qualifications, training, support and skills, Educational programmes and Assessment. These were detailed in full in the letter sent to you on 17 May 2015. The welfare requirement notices were monitored successfully on 1 June 2015 when the setting was found to be meeting the requirements. The notices to improve were also monitored during a visit on 16 June 2015. Although some improvement was clearly evident there were still weaknesses in planning and assessment, particularly for children aged two to three years. The observation, assessment and planning process had been revised

with a newly implemented system at that time. Staff were just starting to use this new system and were being supported by management. At that point some staff were less confident than others.

p.1

Outcome of monitoring

I monitored your setting again on 18 August 2015. During the visit I asked whether your local authority quality improvement officer was able to join us and although it was not possible, I did speak to her following my visit. The quality improvement officer had noted the improvement in the nursery. She says that rooms are now better resourced and the refurbishment has helped to make the younger children more settled. I was also able to speak with Ursula Krystek-Walton during the visit who outlined the work that she had been undertaking with staff.

p.1

Outcome of monitoring

I spoke with both the general manager and manager during my visit and they were able to tell me about the work that has been taking place with staff. The nursery has undergone some refurbishment since my last visit. There is now a self-contained baby room which is cosier and therefore babies are more settled. They can no longer see people entering and leaving the nursery which previously caused them to be unsettled. The staff team in this area has also remained consistent so the babies can form a bond with their key person. Children appeared happy and engaged in play either on their own or with staff. In the outdoor area preschool children were having great fun playing hide and seek with staff. The outdoor area has also undergone some refurbishment with a grassed area being provided, as well as a mud kitchen and sensory garden. Although this area is still being developed it is a good start to making the area more attractive for children and giving them a better variety of

resources and activities in the outdoors.

p.2

Outcome of monitoring

Assessments for children aged two to three years are now fully in place. All children who require one have an assessment in the three prime areas of learning and these have been shared successfully with parents. Staff are gaining confidence in planning and assessment for all children using the new system which had recently been implemented at my last visit. Staff report that they find the visual planning a lot easier to manage and without the onerous paperwork they had previously, feel they have more time to spend actually playing with the children. Regular team meetings and staff supervision as well as training, makes sure the staff team are involved and feel valued.

p.2

Outcome of monitoring

Having considered all the evidence, the inspector is of the opinion that the setting has taken prompt and effective action to address the points for improvement.

p.2

Next steps

The next step will be a full inspection.
