p.1

This provision is good

 Children are happy and settled. They enjoy a warm and affectionate relationship with the experienced childminder. They are confident learners and are making good progress in their learning and development.  The childminder is confident about who she would contact if she had concerns about a child. She understands how to proceed if an allegation was made about a member of her household. She ensures children play in a safe and secure environment because she routinely checks for potential hazards and implements suitable safety precautions.  Children's good health is successfully promoted. The childminder provides healthy snacks and meals. Children benefit from plenty of opportunities to play in the garden and to continue their learning outside in the fresh air.  Partnerships with parents are strong. Consequently, parents are actively involved in their children's learning and development.  The childminder evaluates the service that she provides. She identifies areas where

improvements need to be made and is committed to her own professional development.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder has not established highly effective links with other settings that children attend.  The childminder does not focus sharply enough on children's next steps to ensure they are making the very best possible progress.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 strengthen the arrangements for exchanging information with other settings that children attend, in order to share more information to complement their learning  refine the assessment process so that it is more precise and sharply focused to ensure children are making the best possible progress.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed activities and interaction between the childminder and the children during play.  The inspector spoke with the childminder and the children at appropriate times throughout the inspection.  The inspector looked at documents relating to the Early Years Foundation Stage provided by the childminder, including children's assessment records.  The inspector viewed areas of the home and garden used for childminding.  The inspector jointly evaluated an activity with the childminder.

p.2

who attend. This is good

The childminder is well qualified and uses her knowledge to observe and teach children effectively. The quality of teaching is good and children are making consistent progress in their learning and development. However, the identified next steps in their learning are not always focused sharply enough to raise children's achievements to a higher level. Children's creative skills are promoted well. The childminder gives children opportunities to explore texture, taste and smell in an activity based around healthy food. She encourages children to talk about size and shape. Children learn how to use tools and equipment safely as they cut up fruit to use in the activity. The childminder engages children in conversation to help nurture their language development. Overall, children are prepared well for the next stage in their learning and the eventual move on to school.

p.3

good

The childminder's home is clean, safe and extremely well organised. Equipment is displayed and organised so that children are able to make independent choices in their play. Children display confidence as they self-select from a range of toys and equipment, both indoors and outside. The childminder teaches children about good hygiene routines and provides healthy and nutritious snacks for children to enjoy. Children have daily opportunities for fresh air and exercise. The childminder takes the children on a variety of outings to promote their understanding of the world around them. The childminder is calm and caring and children relate very well to her. Children receive regular praise and encouragement from her, which develops their self-esteem and ensures they feel valued.

p.3

provision is good

Arrangements for safeguarding children are robust. The childminder regularly updates her knowledge by completing child protection training. She is knowledgeable about the signs and symptoms of abuse, and how to help keep children safe from harm. The childminder communicates with parents on a daily basis. She regularly shares learning summaries with parents to show their child's development and their next steps in learning. As a result, parents are aware of how their child is progressing. However, information is not shared as well with other settings that children attend. This means that the childminder does not have all of the relevant information to help her plan as effectively as possible for children's future learning. The childminder reflects on the strengths of her provision, taking the views of parents and children into account. Parents are very happy with the service she provides.
