This provision is good

 The childminder knows children very well and is sensitive to their individual needs. As a result, the children form secure attachments to the childminder and her assistant.  Children become increasingly independent in their choices of activities. They develop good levels of confidence and self-belonging. They are well prepared for their future learning.  The childminder conducts regular checks on her premises, resources and outings to ensure that all children are safe and secure. She carries out fire drills so that children know how to evacuate the setting in an emergency.  The childminder teaches children to cross the road safely and helps them understand the importance of good hygiene routines to prevent the spread of infection.  The childminder encourages parents to contribute to their children's learning and development. This enables her to plan for the next steps in their learning. She acts on

advice she receives from parents and others to enhance the service she provides.  The childminder keeps parents fully informed about their children's progress and well- being. Parents' feedback is positive and reflects the good care their children receive.  The childminder supervises her assistant well to help ensure consistent and coordinated care.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder skilfully engages children in activities. However, she does not always provide enough challenge for older and the more-able children to learn about different people and communities and to fully understand the world around them.

who attend. This is good

The childminder and her assistant they provide a good range of activities and experiences that, overall, meet the needs of all children. Children enjoy an exciting and playful time in the calm and welcoming learning environment. Through carefully planned activities and well-targeted support, children make good progress in relation to their starting points. They develop good communication and language skills. Children learn to listen to one another and respond appropriately to requests. Older children learn to write their names correctly and independently. In a cooking activity, children are able to observe and make reasonable comments on the changes. For example, they know what happens to ingredients when flour was mixed with water and some food colouring to make a playdough. Children learn to count objects, to explore various shapes and sizes in the environment and to develop the ability to solve problems in real life.

p.3

good

The childminder and her assistant have undertaken behaviour management training and skilfully teach children right from wrong. The childminder helps children to share resources fairly, to take turns on toys and equipment and to express their feelings freely. This supports their social and emotional skills. The childminder provides nutritious home- cooked meals each day that take account of the children's dietary needs. This helps children to adopt healthy eating habits. The childminder plans activities for children to play in the garden and takes them regularly to the park to have fresh air and exercise. As a result, children develop good coordination and understand the importance of maintaining their physical health.

p.3

She completely understands her responsibility in reporting any child protection issues to the appropriate professionals. The childminder shares the safeguarding policies and procedures with her assistant and parents. Comprehensive self- evaluation accurately identifies the childminder's strengths and helps her target ideas for ongoing improvement.
