p.1

This provision is good

 The childminder has a very good understanding of her safeguarding procedures. She knows what to do if she has a concern about a child in her care. Her home is safe and secure and she completes risk assessments to minimise any hazards.  The childminder completes detailed assessments of children's achievements. She uses these well to identify and plan for children's next steps in their learning. She provides challenging activities that encourage children to learn. All children make good progress.  The childminder develops extremely warm and nurturing relationships with children. Children show that they are very comfortable in the childminder's home. They are exceptionally confident and have high levels of self-esteem. They are happy and confident and demonstrate that they feel very safe and secure.  Children learn how to manage risks for themselves as they play in the garden. They move, climb and balance skilfully using a variety of equipment. They enjoy riding

wheeled toys and negotiate obstacles as they play in the outside garage.  The childminder is proactive in keeping up to date with childcare issues. She attends training and shares information and good practice with her assistant and co- childminder. She identifies how she can develop activities and resources to improve her practice.  The childminder establishes effective partnerships with parents. She works particularly closely with them to meet children's individual care needs. Parents are actively involved in their children's learning.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not always extend older children's language skills or increase their vocabulary during planned activities.  On occasion, the childminder steps in too quickly to show children how to do things. She interrupts children's learning to move them on to different activities.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 extend opportunities for older children to broaden their language development and vocabulary to a higher level  provide opportunities for children to become fully involved in their chosen activities and extend children's skills as thinkers and problem solvers further.

p.2

who attend. This is good

The experienced and well-qualified childminder is knowledgeable about how children learn. She uses her understanding to promote children's good progress across all areas of learning. She provides activities that excite and motivate children well. She adapts activities to support children with special educational needs and/or disabilities. Overall, the childminder interacts with children and teaches them well. However, occasionally she is too quick to offer different activities for children to try. She does not always give children the time they need to finish what they are already doing. Also, she does not always extend children's language skills while they are playing. Children are active learners and are acquiring the key skills for their future learning. Children are eager to learn and are willing to try new things. They use their imaginations well as they pretend to be doctors and nurses. They skilfully use tweezers to pick up pieces of cereal using their fingers and

outstanding

The childminder's home is extremely welcoming and equipped with a very wide range of high-quality resources. The childminder uses the resources effectively to meet children's needs very well. Children are particularly relaxed and confident in the childminder's care and their behaviour is exemplary. They learn to respect each other's differences and discuss their feelings openly. The childminder meticulously teaches children the importance of following effective hygiene procedures and about keeping safe. She is highly proactive in promoting healthy eating and encouraging children to try a variety of foods and understand where food comes from. Children enjoy frequent visits to parks and walks through the woods. The childminder teaches children about staying safe, and children regularly take part in emergency evacuation drills. The childminder uses her thorough knowledge of the local school's routines to prepare children extremely well for

The childminder is dedicated and passionate about her role. She meets all the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage. All procedures and documentation are routinely reviewed and updated. The childminder reflects critically on her practice, and that of her assistant. Parents contribute to the quality of the service she provides. Comprehensive recruitment procedures are in place. The childminder checks on her assistant's performance. She completes thorough inductions and regular supervisions to provide good support, encourage teamwork and set high standards. The childminder and her assistant have completed mandatory first-aid and safeguarding training. The childminder regularly checks on children's progress. She is aware of any gaps in children's learning and takes relevant steps to address these. She then plans effectively to close the gaps.
