p.1

This provision is good

 Children develop good listening and language skills as the childminder promotes their communication and speech development very well. For example, she introduces new vocabulary as she reads to them and children repeat the words.  The childminder provides friendly and caring interactions with children. Therefore, children develop trusting relationships with her. This has a positive impact on their emotional well-being and they settle in well.  Children learn about road safety as the childminder teaches them about staying safe on outings. For example, they know to walk slowly when they come down the hill.  The childminder is committed to improving her qualifications and skills further through relevant training. She uses her professional skills well to provide good-quality learning experiences for children.  The childminder has undertaken safeguarding training. She understands the procedures to follow and knows who to contact if she is concerned about children's well-being.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Children do not always have access to resources that promote their early writing skills.  The childminder does not always take steps to gain parents' and professional's feedback to support her self-evaluation further.

who attend. This is good

The childminder knows the children well and effectively plans activities and outings to meet their individual needs. This helps children make good progress in their learning and development so they are ready for the next stage in their learning. Children are motivated to explore, which has a positive impact on their learning and progress. The childminder supports children's learning securely. For example, during the inspection, the childminder talked to children about the sounds in the environment when they walked to the park. This helped develop children's understanding of the natural world well. The childminder encouraged children to count when going up steps to promote their early mathematical skills. She encourages children's enjoyment and they giggle and laugh as they play and have fun. The childminder effectively promotes children's interest in books. Children join in enthusiastically by pointing to pictures and by copying actions, such as flapping their arms

and pretending to be birds. This encourages young children's early reading skills and develops their creativity well. Parents receive regular updates about their children's progress and ideas to help support learning at home.

good

The childminder uses polite words and children do the same with some gentle reminders. This helps them to develop good social skills. The childminder works in close partnership with parents to provide healthy meals for children. Children express their preferences on which fruit they would like to have. Therefore, they learn to make simple choices. Children develop independence as they help tidy up after meal times. For example, they help sweep up using a brush and pan to tidy the floor. Children learn to move in different ways as they use the climbing equipment in the park. This promotes their physical development. The childminder offers lots of praise and support as young children explore new skills, such as coming down the slide. Consequently, children build confidence in their own abilities.

p.3

provision is good

She has established strong relationships with local schools and shares information effectively with the staff to promote continuity in children's care and learning. She monitors children's progress effectively to identify gaps in their learning and this helps her to develop precise plans to meet their individual needs. The childminder shares good practice and ideas with other childminders which helps her to continually improve the quality of her teaching and outcomes for children. She understands her responsibility to monitor and support the work of her assistant to consistently maintain good standards in the quality of her provision.
