p.1
This provision requires improvement. It is not yet good because:
The childminder has not yet considered how she intends to use additional staff in the setting to enhance and develop children's spoken English. This means that these staff do not have a clear understanding of their role. The childminder has not ensured that all persons working at the setting have obtained an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check. Opportunities for children to express their creativity are not fully explored. The childminder has not fully established a two-way flow of information about children's learning with other settings that they attend.
p.1
It has the following strengths
The childminder is aware of her responsibilities to protect children from abuse and neglect. She successfully identifies and minimises risks in her home and garden so that children are kept safe as they play. Children behave well and listen attentively to the childminder and her assistant. Children are responsive and polite from a young age. Relationships between the childminder, children and each other are strong. Children enjoy regular opportunities to meet with other children. This helps them to develop confidence and good social skills in readiness for school. Children have good opportunities to play outdoors, helping them to lead active and healthy lifestyles. The outdoor learning environment is stimulating and provides good opportunities for children to explore, investigate and solve problems.

Inspection activities
The inspector looked at the areas used for childminding. The inspector observed activities indoors and outdoors. The inspector spoke to the childminder, her assistant, her Communication Support Worker and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector looked at children's learning and development records, the childminder's self-evaluation record and the childminder's policies and procedures. The inspector took into account the views of parents by reading recently completed questionnaires.
p.2
who attend. This requires improvement
The childminder has a secure understanding of how children learn. She communicates well with children using sign language. The childminder has taken steps to employ an adult to support children's spoken English. However, this person has not been made aware of their role and responsibilities and, therefore, they are not yet effectively being used to enhance children's skills in this area. The childminder monitors children's progress appropriately, using observations and assessments to help identify children's ongoing learning. Children, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities, love to explore and use their imaginations. They wash dolls in the paddling pool and are reminded to be careful not to get soap in the doll's eyes when pouring the water over their heads. The childminder challenges children's knowledge of colours as she asks them what hair colour the dolls have and what colour hair other children and adults present have. She introduces

children to alternatives, such as light brown, to support their understanding even further. Opportunities for children to use resources that make sounds are not always readily available, which limits their ideas and does not fully promote their creativity.

good
The childminder meets children's emotional and physical needs well. She has robust settling-in procedures and gathers relevant information about children's routines. As a result, children are settled and happy in this welcoming and well-resourced environment. Daily diaries ensure parents are well informed about their children's care throughout the day. This reassures parents that children's needs are well met. Food offered to children is healthy and well balanced. The childminder and her assistant talk with children about the food they eat and the positive impact it has on their health. Children understand about good hygiene practices and they independently use the facilities on the ground floor to manage their personal needs. Children are learning how to be safe, for example, through practising the fire drill and learning how to cross roads safely.
p.3
provision requires improvement
The childminder seeks to improve her practice and the quality of her setting. She develops her skills by linking closely with other providers in the area. She has made sound improvements since her last inspection, which has had a positive impact on the quality of the provision for children's care and learning. For example, she plans activities well to challenge children's abilities, and works well in partnership with parents to share ideas on how to develop and build on their child's learning at home. The childminder has yet to complete appropriate checks on persons working in the setting. However, this has little impact on children as these persons do not have any unsupervised access to them. The childminder monitors her assistant's interactions with children and offers suggestions on how best to support each child. Parents speak highly of the childminder and the provision she offers. However, there is room to build on the links with other settings children

attend, in order to further complement their learning and development.
