This provision is good
Children's progress and achievements are good. Teaching is strong. The childminder makes effective use of observations and assessments. Children enjoy a range of interesting and enjoyable activities that motivate them in acquiring the skills they need for the next stage in their learning, including starting school. The childminder fully understands her responsibilities to protect children. She provides a safe and secure environment and keeps her safeguarding knowledge updated. She knows what to do should she have any concerns about a child's welfare. Consequently, children are well protected from harm. The childminder's garden is a safe and exciting place for children to play, explore and learn. There is a good range of equipment to encourage children's physical skills and a wide range of resources to stimulate their learning and awareness of nature. The childminder is caring and attentive to children's needs. She has developed strong

and trusting relationships with both children and their families. Children's emotional well-being is supported very well. Children feel secure, happy and confident. The childminder has a range of policies and procedures that she shares with parents so that they are fully informed about her setting and know what to expect.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always give children enough time to apply their language and thinking skills when responding to questions. Younger children's explorations and interests are not always promoted effectively.

who attend. This is good
The childminder provides a rich learning environment that is well organised and promotes children's independence as they choose what to play with. She enthusiastically engages with all children and motivates them in their learning. She tracks children's learning and development, and regularly provides a summary of development for parents. She identifies any gaps in children's learning and puts extra support in place if needed to ensure children succeed. She has high expectations of children and uses a range of techniques, such as explaining, demonstrating and setting challenges to support and extend children's learning. However, younger children's explorations and their particular interests in transporting, filling and emptying are not always supported and provided for. Children develop an understanding of shape, number and colour through play-based activities. The childminder asks questions as children play. However, she does not always

give them enough time to think about what has been asked or time to think about their response. Nevertheless, the childminder skilfully models language to extend children's vocabulary, which helps to develop their skills for learning.

good
The childminder has a friendly and welcoming approach and provides children with a homely learning environment. Children settle easily and form strong attachments and positive relationships with her. The childminder uses praise and encouragement, and gently reminds children of the rules. Children develop friendships and behave very well. They share and play cooperatively together. Children are developing their understanding of how to keep themselves healthy. Good hygiene practices help children to learn about the importance of washing their hands to remove germs. Relationships with parents and external agencies are strong. The childminder works closely with parents and keeps them well informed each day about their children's learning and development. This promotes good continuity of care and learning.
p.3
provision is good
The childminder has a good knowledge and understanding of the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage. She effectively implements policies and procedures to support her good practice. The childminder frequently reflects on her teaching and values parents and children's views about the quality of her setting. She sets clear targets for improvement. The well-qualified childminder is proactive in keeping up to date with early years practice. She regularly discusses her practice with her co-childminder, the Local Authority Advisor and uses the internet to research current early years topics. She attends training to further her knowledge and understanding. This has a positive impact on the care and education that she provides for children. The childminder has developed very strong partnerships with the local school and other professionals. She shares information about children's interests and achievements. This results in effective continuity in learning
