The setting meets legal requirements for early years settings

p.1

This provision is good

 The management team have successfully improved many aspects of the nursery since the last inspection. They have implemented robust systems for monitoring the quality of teaching and assessment of children's progress. Staff continue to improve their practice through good training opportunities.  The strong focus on helping children to acquire language helps children make good progress in their communication skills. Children who speak English as an additional language develop a good use of English. Children listen well, share ideas, and demonstrate that they are gaining good skills to ensure they are ready for school.  Staff establish effective partnerships with parents and other professionals, which contribute to consistency in children's care and learning. As a result, groups of children, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities, progress well.  Children behave well because staff have consistent expectations and give clear

explanations of good behaviour. Therefore, children are calm and engaged in their learning.  Staff understand and implement the policies and procedures designed to keep children safe and protect them from harm.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Sometimes, when key persons are absent, covering staff do not have precise information on children's learning aims. This slightly reduces the effectiveness of teaching at those times.  Occasionally, staff do not give older children long enough to think about how to solve problems for themselves.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 improve communication to ensure that all staff are fully aware of every child's learning aims, in order to consistently provide very good quality teaching  increase opportunities for older children to think critically about how to solve problems for themselves.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector viewed samples of documentation, including evidence of suitability, staff qualifications and the setting's self-evaluation form.  The inspector observed children engaged in activities in all three playrooms and outside.  The inspector carried out two joint observations with the deputy manager.  The inspector took account of the views of parents spoken to on the day of inspection.  The inspector spoke with children and staff during the inspection and held a meeting with the manager to discuss the leadership and management of the setting.

p.2

who attend. This is good

Staff use their qualifications and experience effectively to promote children's good learning and progress. A member of staff encourages two-year-olds to think about how they can wash soap out the dolls' hair. This develops their problem-solving skills. Staff listen to children and encourage them to share ideas. As a result, children listen and learn from one another. Occasionally, staff working with older children respond too quickly when children present them with a problem. This means that children are not encouraged sufficiently to solve problems for themselves. Children develop good dispositions for learning as they experiment, try new methods and persist in order to meet their own aims. This prepares them well for their future learning when they move on to school. Managers and staff have developed accurate assessment systems, based on the good knowledge staff have of their key children. Staff use this information to plan challenging activities that

motivate children's learning. However, staff covering in the absence of key persons cannot always adapt teaching easily to children's precise learning aims. This is because systems of communication are not robust so they are not fully aware of children's precise learning needs. Staff work well with parents, sharing information and supporting them to continue their children's learning at home.

p.3

good

Children and babies form good attachments with their key persons. They are confident and secure in the nursery, which prepares them well for changes in life, such as when they move to a new room. Staff working with babies are caring and responsive to their needs. The room is organised and calm, which helps babies to settle and feel secure. Children behave well because staff are good role models who demonstrate good social skills. Children copy this as they say please and thank you to each other during play. Staff encourage children to do things for themselves. Therefore, they develop good independence and physical skills. Young children carefully peel their oranges at snack time because a member of staff reassures them that they can succeed. Children enjoy playing and learning equally indoors and in the garden. They benefit from fresh air and a healthy diet which encourages them to adopt a healthy lifestyle.

p.3

provision is good

The management team have successfully addressed the actions and recommendations raised at the last inspection. Their monitoring of the provision is rigorous. Managers regularly observe and discuss staff practice. As a result, the strengths of the nursery and areas for development are identified early and action is taken. Staff express that they are supported well through supervision and training. Managers work effectively in partnership with other professionals. Systems for recruitment and induction are robust. This checks that adults working with children are suitable to do so. Parents spoken to at inspection say they are happy with their children's care and feel well informed.
