p.1

This provision is good

 Children form strong relationships with the childminder, which helps them to feel secure and promotes their emotional well-being.  The childminder has a good understanding of child protection. She has a comprehensive safeguarding policy and follows her procedures to help keep children safe.  The childminder plans age-appropriate activities that interest children. She has a good understanding of how children develop. She uses the children's interests well to promote their development, which prepares children for their next stage in learning and starting school.  The childminder holds a level 3 qualification and attends training to enhance her professional development. For example, she recently attended a course to develop craft and messy play activities, which has helped promote children's creativity.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not consistently provide opportunities for children to see their home languages in print, to enhance their communication and language skills.  The childminder does not always organise her resources well, such as displays. Therefore, children sometimes miss opportunities to recognise the similarities and differences in their cultural heritage to promote a sense of belonging and an awareness of the diversity that exists in their community.

who attend. This is good

Children make good progress in their learning. The childminder completes regular and precise assessments of children. This helps her track their progress to identify any gaps in their achievement and address these when she plans activities for individual children. For example, she helps children to develop their listening and attention skills by reading stories. The childminder has addressed the recommendations from her last inspection well by encouraging children to choose from a wide variety of activities to promote their independence. The childminder promotes children's communication skills. For example, she uses proper words to name objects, such as 'doll' instead of 'dolly', and extends their vocabulary by describing their actions as they play. Children thoroughly enjoy playing together and cooperate in games. The childminder encourages older children to include younger children in their play. Younger children meet with other children when they

good

The childminder makes sure the environment is safe for the children. She completes risks assessments and helps children to understand how to manage their own risks and how to play together safely. The childminder talks and interacts with children in a calm and gentle way. As a result, children behave well and get on with each other. The childminder helps children to learn about healthy lifestyles. She provides them with nutritious meals and caters for children's intolerances, allergies and preferences. She helps children learn about good hygiene routines and they go outdoors daily, which contributes to their physical well- being.

p.3

provision is good

The childminder has a good understanding of her responsibilities in caring for and educating children. She constantly reflects on her practice, considering the views of parents and children. For example, she reviewed how she helped settle children to sleep trying new ways at the suggestion of parents. The childminder attends regular training. This helps to ensure continuous improvement in her teaching skills and improves the quality of activities. The childminder uses her knowledge to monitor children's progress and plan interesting activities, which helps them to make good progress in their learning and development. The childminder talks with parents daily to gain and share information about their children. This supports a consistent approach to meeting children's learning and development needs.
