p.1
This provision is good
The childminder has a nurturing approach and forms warm relationships with children. Consequently, their emotional well-being is well supported and they feel safe and secure in her care. Children are well prepared for school. The childminder places a priority on helping children to gain skills, such as independent self-care and social skills. This helps children to be confident when going into the school environment. The childminder has a good understanding of how to keep children safe. She attends child protection training and understands her roles and responsibilities to keep children safe from harm. The environment is safe and secure and potential risks to children in the home and on outings are minimised. The childminder is a good role model and manages children's behaviour in a positive way. Children know what is expected of them and as a result, they behave very well and are well mannered. This helps them to develop positive relationships with others

and promotes the skills they need when they move on to school.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder occasionally misses opportunities to support and extend children's learning during planned activities. Arrangements are not fully in place to liaise with other early years settings that children attend. This means information about their wider learning is not taken into account when planning activities.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector viewed the premises, toys and equipment. The inspector observed activities in the home and carried out a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector spoke with the childminder and the children at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector looked at children's assessment records and planning documentation. The inspector took into account the views of parents through written documentation.

who attend. This is good
The childminder has a good understanding of how children learn and she successfully plans for all areas of learning. As a result, children make good progress in their development. Her observations of children capture their achievements and identify the next steps for their learning. The childminder clearly knows children well. She speaks confidently about how they are progressing and plans activities to build on what they can already do. Generally, her interactions with children support their learning. However, during planned activities, she sometimes misses opportunities to introduce new words and ideas to build on children's vocabulary and help them maintain their focus on learning. Children express their excitement and enthusiasm as they help themselves to toys of their choice from a wide range of resources. They become deeply involved in role play based on their own first-hand experiences as they make cups of tea and care for their babies. The

childminder fully recognises this interest and facilitates it well. She provides a wealth of resources for them to use and ensures they have uninterrupted time to develop their play.

good
The childminder is welcoming, attentive and sensitive to children's individual needs. As a result, children form strong attachments and are settled and secure. Children develop a healthy lifestyle. The childminder teaches them about the benefits of healthy eating and encourages the children to talk about their favourite foods. High standards of cleanliness are maintained and good hygiene routines followed. Children have good opportunities to engage in physical play activities, both in the childminder's garden and on outings to the local parks. This helps to promote their physical health. During outings, they learn the importance of keeping safe. They know that they need to be careful crossing the roads and should hold the childminder's hand. Children build their social skills during visits to toddler groups, and find out about the wider society as they partake in the many outings.
p.3
provision is good
The childminder has a good understanding of the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage and meets these well. Assessments of children's achievements, including the required progress check for children aged two, help to identify any gaps in their learning. The childminder monitors her provision and has a clear awareness of her strengths and areas to improve. For example, she is keen to develop her outdoor learning provision. She gains parents' and children's views to help her make continuous improvements. The childminder attends frequent training and has discussions with other childminders to help her continually move forward with her practice. Partnerships with parents are positive. Parents say they are informed of their child's care and development. This exchange of information enables continuity between the home and setting. However, the arrangements for liaising with nurseries that children attend are not as well

established to help the childminder further consolidate children's learning.
