This provision is good
The childminder has a very good understanding of how children learn. The quality of her teaching is good and some is outstanding. She plans for children's ongoing development and next steps. All children make good progress in their learning and some make rapid progress. Safeguarding procedures are robust. The childminder fully understands her responsibility in protecting children and keeping them safe from harm. Children demonstrate that they feel very safe and secure in the childminder's home. The childminder has a calm nature and offers a very welcoming, homely environment, which helps children to settle rapidly and build very secure attachments with her. Children develop confidence and their feelings are acknowledged and supported. Partnerships with parents are well established. The childminder and parents work together to support the care and learning needs of each individual child throughout

their time with her. In addition, partnerships with schools and other professionals are strong. The childminder supports children in developing an understanding of good hygiene routines and an awareness of leading a healthy lifestyle. She makes effective use of the local area and amenities to promote children's social skills and physical development.

Inspection activities

The inspector looked at evidence of the suitability of the childminder and co- childminder, children's assessment records and a sample of policies. The inspector discussed the childminder's self-evaluation form and improvement plan. The inspector considered the views of parents, provided through written feedback.

who attend. This is good
The childminder understands the needs of the children and offers a wide range of learning experiences to promote their development. She carries out regular observations and makes accurate assessments of children's learning. Children are well supported in their play. The childminder listens carefully to what children say and clearly repeats their words so that correct speech sounds are reinforced. However, she does not always fully support children in developing their problem-solving and thinking skills. This slightly reduces their opportunities to discover why things happen for themselves. Children hold pencils using highly developed control and demonstrate their interest in writing as they draw lines and circles on their paper. During play activities the childminder skilfully creates opportunities for children to develop their mathematical understanding of counting, shape and size. Parents are especially pleased with the progress their children are making in the care of

Children are cared for in a well-resourced homely environment. Children's artwork is valued and displayed in the playroom alongside attractive, informative posters. Resources are stored so that children can independently access them. Children form close bonds with the childminder and display their obvious affection for her. Children's personal, social and emotional development is effectively supported. Children are confident with the childminder because they know what is expected of them. The childminder implements consistent boundaries and routines. Children's health and well-being are supported very well. The childminder provides a wide range of opportunities for children to take part in physical exercise. Children are extremely motivated in managing their own self-care skills. Very young children respond well to the childminder's encouragement and competently put their own shoes on and fasten them with ease. Their emotional well-being is strong.

Children are acquiring the attitudes and dispositions they need to be ready for the next stage in their learning, such as starting school.

provision is good
The childminder has a good understanding of her responsibility in meeting the learning and development requirements and how to keep children safe. She implements robust safety measures to reduce the risk of accidents. The childminder effectively monitors and evaluates the experiences she provides and tracks children's learning. This enables her to identify any gaps in children's progress and seek support if necessary. The childminder demonstrates a commitment to providing high-quality care and learning experiences. She is well qualified and regularly updates her knowledge and skills, undertaking a variety of training, which impacts positively on children's learning. The childminder has a good awareness of the strengths of her provision and has identified ways to improve the service she provides. Children and parents are encouraged to suggest ways in which her service can be enhanced. The childminder works extremely effectively with her co-childminder.
