The setting meets legal requirements for early years settings

p.1

This provision is good

 The childminder gathers information about children's abilities and interests. Planning targets children's individual learning needs from the outset. All children are making good progress in all areas of learning and development.  Safeguarding is central to the childminder's practice. She encourages children to identify potential hazards during their play. This means they are developing a thorough understanding of how to keep themselves safe.  Effective settling-in arrangements ensure children quickly form secure bonds with the childminder.  The childminder holds a relevant childcare qualification. She accesses additional training to develop her knowledge and skills. This means children benefit from independent play and adult-led activities that are supported by good quality teaching.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Occasionally, children's concentration is interrupted by background noise.  The childminder does not always make the most of opportunities to support babies in exploring their senses through using their whole body.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

who attend. This is good

The childminder provides children with a wide range of resources that reflect the seven areas of learning. The childminder shares her assessments of children's progress with parents and other providers so that there is continuity in children's learning. She finds out what children are doing at school and at home and builds on this. Planned activities help children to achieve their next steps. However, music playing in the background sometimes distracts children and breaks their concentration. The childminder effectively supports children's developing language. As babies play she responds to their babbling. She uses facial expressions and gestures to promote their understanding of language. The space is well planned to give children plenty of room to play. Babies have time on their tummies where they can roll and crawl. They explore toys that support their hand-to-eye coordination as they begin to push and pull things. Babies investigate baskets of natural

objects using their hands and mouths. However, the childminder does not always take full advantage of opportunities to extend these sensory experiences by encouraging babies to explore using their whole body.

good

Children settle easily into the setting. The childminder's calm and patient manner is reassuring and supportive. Babies demonstrate secure attachments early in their care. Care routines are shared with parents to ensure continuity in children's care. The childminder uses praise and encouragement to promote children's confidence. She effectively supports children throughout changes in their lives, which means their emotional well-being is maintained. The childminder promotes children's understanding of healthy lifestyles by encouraging exercise and healthy eating. Children benefit from regular trips to playgroups where they develop their social skills. They are encouraged to be kind and share, which helps to prepare them for the move on to nursery or school.

p.3

provision is good

The childminder has a detailed knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage requirements. Policies and procedures are implemented effectively to ensure children are safe and protected. These are also shared with parents so they have a good understanding of the childminder's role and responsibilities and the service she provides. The childminder works with parents and other professionals to monitor children's development. This shared approach ensures assessments are accurate and promotes consistency in children's learning. All children are making good progress from their starting points. The childminder reflects on her practice and seeks the views of parents. Swift and effective action is taken to address any areas identified for improvement.
