p.1
This provision is good
The childminder takes all necessary steps to keep children safe and protected. She keeps her safeguarding knowledge updated and knows who to contact if she has concerns about a child. Children are happy and settled. They enjoy a warm and affectionate relationship with the experienced childminder. Children's personal, social and emotional development receives high priority. Children follow good hygiene routines. They enjoy healthy snacks and meals. The childminder effectively supports them to lead healthy lifestyles. The childminder is well organised and has a professional approach to her work. The childminder has established good working relationships with parents and with the other settings that children attend.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not manage the environment well enough to ensure that the youngest children can always listen and pay attention to their learning without distraction. The childminder does not make the best use of information from her observations to plan very precisely for children's next steps in learning and their rapid progress.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities and interactions between the childminder and children during play. The inspector spoke with the childminder and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector looked at documents relating to the Early Years Foundation Stage that were provided by the childminder, including children's assessment records and evidence of suitability of the childminder and other adults living in the house. The inspector viewed the areas of the home and garden that are used for childminding. The inspector carried out a joint observation with the childminder.

who attend. This is good
The childminder knows the children that she cares for well. She plans a wide range of activities to help children to learn, both inside and outdoors. Children of all ages and capabilities enjoy a sensory activity with dough and seashells. The childminder talks to them as they play, introducing new vocabulary and listening with interest as they describe their recent holiday. She gives older children the opportunity to develop their communication and language skills. However, the childminder does not always ensure that she is supporting the youngest children's language skills to develop fully. This is because she does not consider the impact of background noise on children's listening and concentration skills. The childminder introduces children to simple mathematical skills by counting with them as they play. Children begin to understand the concept of size as she helps them to compare the shells they are playing with. However, activities are not always

consistently matched to children's needs as precisely as possible. This is because the childminder does not always use her observations of children's progress to clearly plan consistently challenging next steps so individual children make rapid progress.

good
Children are happy, confident and motivated to learn. The childminder provides high levels of care and meets children's emotional and physical needs effectively. Children know how to use the bathroom effectively, showing good self-help skills. The childminder prepares children well for when they start school. She encourages children to be independent and helps to develop their early literacy skills. The childminder understands how to work in partnership with parents and other professionals associated with the children that she looks after. For example, she attends meetings with health visitors and parents to share information about children's progress and achievements. The childminder teaches children about good hygiene routines and provides a wide variety of nutritious meals and snacks. Children enjoy the benefits of fresh air and exercise as they participate in daily activities outdoors and visit exciting places of interest.
p.3
provision is good
The childminder has a secure understanding of her responsibilities with regard to the Early Years Foundation Stage. There is a range of policies and procedures in place to support children's health, safety and well-being. The childminder has a secure knowledge of child protection and knows who to contact if she has concerns about a child. The childminder attends regular training and holds a relevant early years qualification at level 3. This gives her a good understanding of how children learn and helps her to teach children effectively. The childminder reflects on her practice and has clear targets for improvement. The childminder has established strong links with other local childminders. These provide her with the opportunity to share good practice and to further enhance her skills.
