This provision is good
Children benefit from a broad range of learning opportunities that cover all seven areas of learning. They make good progress from their starting points. Children behave well in response to clear and consistent expectations and boundaries. The childminder interacts and communicates warmly with young children and successfully promotes their emotional development. The childminder supervises children closely and keeps them safe from harm. She maintains a comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of child protection and how to work with other agencies to protect children. Children develop confidence as they learn how to play alongside others in group situations and how to take risks safely. Children feel respected and valued as the childminder listens to their views. Children are supported to make choices in their play and routines. The well-qualified childminder evaluates her provision effectively. She regularly

identifies and completes appropriate training to help her continuously improve her teaching.

It is not yet outstanding because:
Children's early literacy skills, including recognition and use of familiar words and letters, are not always supported as strongly as other areas of learning. The childminder occasionally misses opportunities to support children to use more complex sentences.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

ensure that children's literacy skills are promoted as strongly as other areas of learning strengthen the strategies employed to support children to use more complex sentences when answering questions.

Inspection activities
The inspector viewed the areas of the premises used for childminding. The inspector discussed the self-evaluation and considered the views of parents. The inspector spoke to the childminder and the children at appropriate times, and observed play activities indoors and outside. The inspector carried out a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector checked evidence of the suitability of all adults living in the home. The inspector examined children's learning and development records and checked other documents, such as training and first-aid certificates, risk assessments and the safeguarding policy.

who attend. This is good
Teaching is good. The childminder has a clear understanding of how children learn. She monitors individual children's progress well through observation and assessment. This ensures that children benefit from a good range of activities which are well matched to their learning needs. The childminder uses fun play activities and routines to teach children skills, including communication and language, mathematics and physical skills, in preparation for the next stage of their learning. However, she does not always maximise every opportunity to extend children's good use of language even further, so that they use more complex sentences and explain why things happen. The childminder has established strong links with parents and gathers information from the start about children's achievements at home, to complement her good teaching. She secures an ongoing exchange of information with parents through daily discussions and regularly offers them

access to children's learning records. This helps to ensure that any gaps in learning are identified and addressed.

good
The childminder models good manners and sets clear boundaries for children's behaviour. Children are happy, confident and motivated to learn. The childminder teaches children about how to keep themselves healthy and safe. Children regularly enjoy fresh air and exercise in the childminder's garden, where they engage in stimulating play activities. The childminder provides healthy snacks and meals. Children are reminded to wash their hands before meals and after using the bathroom. The childminder uses outings to local places of interest to teach children how to keep themselves safe. These activities also help them to understand about the wider community and to meet and socialise with others. Children benefit from a very well-organised environment. They are able to select their own resources and lead their own play. However, the childminder sometimes misses opportunities to promote children's early reading skills through reference to familiar,

meaningful written words and letters, so that they begin to understand that print carries meaning.
p.3
provision is good
The childminder has a secure knowledge and understanding of the safeguarding and welfare requirements. She implements policies and procedures effectively to support her good practice and the safety of the children in her care. The childminder makes her professional development a high priority, so that she is able to deliver effective teaching to support children's good progress. She has developed very strong links with the local nursery and school and exchanges information with them regularly to promote continuity in children's learning and care. The childminder gathers feedback from parents, who are very positive about her provision. She uses this feedback and her own reflections to identify strengths and weaknesses in her practice and develop robust planning for improvements.
