p.1

Monitoring for provision judged as inadequate

An Ofsted inspector, Patricia Graham, monitored your provision on 22/06/2015 following your inspection where the provision was judged to be inadequate.

p.1

Outcome of monitoring

As a result of our inspection on 02/03/2015, we sent you a welfare requirements notice. If you were set actions at the inspection, or as a result of our subsequent monitoring or investigations, these are included at the end of this letter.

p.1

Outcome of monitoring

This was the second monitoring visit since your childminding provision was judged ‘inadequate with enforcement’ following the inspection on March 2015.

p.1

Outcome of monitoring

During the visit, the inspector met with you and a representative of the local authority’s quality and outcomes team, to discuss the actions that you have taken since your first monitoring visit, which took place on 28 April 2015. A range of documentation was examined, including your planning and observation records. The inspector also took into account the training that you have accessed since the monitoring visit.

p.1

Outcome of monitoring

The inspector has found that you have taken prompt and effective action to address the weaknesses in relation to the learning and development requirements. Despite the significant weaknesses identified at your inspection, you have worked very closely with the local authority and you have embarked on a journey to help you improve outcomes for children. Moreover, you have ambitious expectations and have maintained links with the local children’s centre and childminder forums to help you plan challenging activities to improve outcomes for children. You now recognise that children learn in different ways and this is clearly reflected in your planning, which provides innovative activities, both indoors and out, for all children. Such examples include a camping day in the back garden, which enabled children to work cooperatively as they built tents, prepared their own lunch and initiated their own play using outdoor resources. You have also introduced long-term planning in

Outcome of monitoring

preparation for the year ahead and notable examples in your planning include history, which recognises the importance that you place on helping young children learn about past events in a meaningful context. During the visit, the inspector found that you have revised your systems for monitoring children’s progress, and as a result, you now have a better understanding of the progress each child is making across all areas of their learning. This is proving fruitful because you now recognise the important role that you play in supporting children’s learning. This is demonstrated by your commitment to training and how you use your acquired knowledge to help children learn. You recognise the importance of working in partnership with parents, and you have good systems in place for seeking children’s starting points. Your recent training on communication and language for two-year-olds has helped you to recognise the importance of

extending children’s vocabulary to encourage more complex speech, and you have very good strategies in place to achieve this.

p.2

Outcome of monitoring

The inspector found that you have recently achieved a first-aid qualification, which has improved your ability to protect children in the event of an accident.

p.2

Outcome of monitoring

Overall, we are satisfied that the quality of your practice has significantly improved and that you are now meeting the individual care and learning needs of all the children that attend.

p.2

Outcome of monitoring

Having considered all the evidence, the inspector is of the opinion that the childminder has taken prompt and effective action to address the points for improvement.

p.2

Next steps

The next step will be a full inspection.
