The setting meets legal requirements for early years settings

p.1

This provision is good

 The childminder is enthusiastic and has a good understanding of how to support children's learning through a broad range of stimulating activities. She identifies children's development through ongoing observations and plans activities to support their next steps. Consequently, children make good progress from their starting points.  Children are happy and settled at the setting as they have strong relationships with the childminder. They benefit from the childminder's sensitivity and affectionate care which supports their confidence and self-esteem.  The childminder has a clear understanding of the requirements to protect children. This means that she is able to identify potential risks to children and put in place appropriate procedures to help keep them safe.  Parents praise the strong partnerships they have with the childminder. She finds ways to involve parents in their children's learning and is flexible to meet families' needs.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder uses some strategies to support children's communication skills. However, she has not refined her practice to ensure that she always communicates effectively to support children's language development.  The childminder does not consistently enable children to make choices from the full range of resources or healthy options available. As a result, children do not always have the opportunity to follow their own preferences and interests.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

who attend. This is good

Children explore all areas of the curriculum through a balanced mixture of play and planned activities. The childminder observes children's learning and takes advantage of spontaneous opportunities to motivate children to try new experiences and extend their understanding of the world. For example, at the inspection, children took great enjoyment when the childminder showed them how to splash barefoot in puddles and make footprints on the ground. She encourages children to count and introduces new concepts, such as size and shapes, and develops early reading skills through daily routines. The childminder also encourages children to learn about their similarities and differences. She provides relevant resources and introduces different festivals, events and traditions. The childminder offers children help when needed. She knows when to take a step back and encourage children to do things for themselves. As a result, children are independent,

confident and well prepared for the next stage in their learning.

p.3

good

Children enjoy moving freely between indoors and outdoors, and playing in the garden where they have space to be physically active and learn in the fresh air. They find out about the natural world as they learn about growing and enjoy outings to the park. The childminder promotes healthy lifestyles through nutritious snacks and teaching children skills to care for themselves. At the inspection, she involved children in the preparation of food and reminded them to wash their hands before eating. Children learn positive behaviours as the childminder is a good role model. She promotes good manners and supports children with fair and consistent boundaries. This means that children develop good social skills and are keen to interact and build relationships.

p.3

provision is good

The childminder has a secure understanding of the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage. She attends training to continue to develop her knowledge and refine her teaching skills to benefit children. She implements her robust policies and procedures to help her to offer a high quality provision for children and their families. The childminder regularly reviews her service and gains the views of parents to identify areas to develop. She works in partnership with parents and other professionals to share records of children's progress. The childminder also has links with school teachers, which enables her to support children as they move from her care into school. This approach to working in partnership enhances continuity in children's care and learning.
