p.1

This provision is good

 The childminder and her assistant have a secure knowledge of safeguarding procedures and child protection issues. They understand the procedures to follow if they have a concern about the welfare of a child or the conduct of an adult. This effectively promotes children's safety.  The outside learning environment is exciting and varied. Children have high levels of involvement. They are motivated and captivated by the learning on offer. Children are very independent and make good progress from their starting points.  The childminder has built firm relationships with parents and other professionals and shares her knowledge and expertise. This has a positive impact on children with additional needs.  The childminder has improved her practice since her last inspection. The childminder has developed a learning environment with lots of number displays to help children make good progress in mathematics.

p.1

This provision is good

 The childminder and her assistant have high expectations, they help children share and understand each other's feelings and as a result children's behaviour is good.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not always provide sufficient resources to enable children to develop their early writing skills during play.  Children do not benefit from a range of natural and sensory materials that allow them to explore, experiment and investigate to enhance their learning experiences.

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

who attend. This is good

The childminder and assistant's interactions with children are good. They encourage children to answer questions and solve problems. For example, children work out how they can reach blocks that have tumbled from a tower and talk about the needs of living things in the garden. Outside, children use tyres and roll them downhill. This promotes the development of children's physical skills, and allows them to make predictions about speed and direction. Children take charge of their play and develop skills that will help them at school. The childminder has worked hard to improve mathematical provision since the last inspection. Children now count as part of their play and benefit from an environment rich in number displays. The childminder has good links with local schools and takes children to visit to help them become familiar with their new environment.

p.3

good

The childminder has developed an effective key-person system. Children make strong emotional attachments with their key adult. The childminder and assistant tailor children's learning and care so they make good progress. This has a positive impact on all children, and especially those with additional needs. The childminder and her assistant are calm and kind. They show children respect and work with gentleness and empathy. As a result, children develop good social skills. The childminder and her assistant encourage children to develop independence. For example, the childminder takes time and care to ensure children manage to do up their coats independently. Children benefit from a broad range of exciting activities in the garden. They develop good physical skills and enjoy fresh air and exercise, promoting their health.

p.3

provision is good

The childminder and her assistant keep learning journals that highlight children's achievements and monitor their learning. The childminder is good at planning new experiences in response to children's interests. The childminder and her assistant track children's progress and share learning with parents. Self-evaluation is effective and helps the childminder to identify areas to improve. Recent behaviour management training has enabled the childminder and assistant to build on the positive strategies they use with children. The childminder and her assistant are a strong team. The childminder supervises her assistant well and encourages her professional development. Together they draw on their qualifications and experience to provide good experiences for the children in their care.
