The setting meets legal requirements for early years settings

p.1

This provision is good

 The childminder has good relationships with parents. Parents are happy with the service they receive. They say that their children settle well when they first attend and enjoy coming. The childminder shares information about children effectively to promote continuity of care and learning.  The quality of teaching and care is good. The childminder consistently reminds children to play cooperatively, share and take turns. Therefore, children develop an awareness of others and behave well.  The childminder has strong relationships with teachers, advisors and other professionals. This helps her to ensure that gaps in children's progress are quickly identified and reduced.  The childminder has a good understanding of child protection procedures. She knows how to report concerns about children's welfare to help keep them safe.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not always encourage children to fully develop their sense of responsibility during everyday tasks. For example, she does not always remind children to tidy up toys after they have finished using them.  The childminder prepares meals for the children and does not provide them with opportunities to take an active role in the process. This does not help children to gain some useful skills in preparation for school and pre-school.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 provide consistent encouragement for children to tidy away the toys they use, to fully develop age-appropriate responsibility  develop opportunities for older children to become more independent during meal times, to further prepare them for school.

p.2

p.2

who attend. This is good

The childminder provides a good range of educational activities that support children's progress in all areas of learning and development. Children make good progress. The quality of teaching is strong. The childminder carries out assessments that identify the progress that children make. This information is used to plan for activities to build on children's learning and to meet their individual needs. The childminder constantly asks children questions that help them to think about what will happen and extend their language. She has high expectations of what children can achieve. Children enjoy building with bricks, making cards, watering plants and using their imagination. They have good opportunities to socialise with others as they often meet other childminders and their children at toddler groups and at the park.

p.3

good

The childminder has strong relationships with the children she cares for. Therefore, children are confident to explore and learn because they feel safe and secure. Children are offered healthy meals and snacks. They are encouraged to develop independence during hygiene routines. Older children use the toilet and wash their hands with minimal adult intervention, while younger children are offered more help as needed. The childminder supports children to be emotionally ready for change. She talks to them about going to school and takes them to collect older children. This help children become familiar with new people and places.

p.3

provision is good

The childminder has a thorough understanding of her responsibilities with regards to the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage. She carries out regular checks of the toys, and the areas that children use, to make sure they remain suitable. The childminder practises fire drills with the children so they develop a good understanding of routines that keep them safe. She knows how to access advice and guidance and carries out training to improve her practice. Therefore, she is able to make changes that offer better opportunities for children and their families. The childminder works alongside her husband, who is also a childminder. Together they effectively evaluate the activities they offer children and the service they provide. Parents are encouraged to contribute suggestions to share their views and develop the service further. The childminder has arranged backup care with other local childminder for emergencies.
