The setting meets legal requirements for early years settings

p.1

This provision is good

 The childminder is extremely caring, sensitive and skilled in helping children to develop secure emotional attachments. This enables children to develop self-confidence and nurtures their overall well-being.  Robust safeguarding procedures ensure children are safe in the care of the childminder. She has an excellent understanding of her responsibilities to protect children. She also regularly refreshes her knowledge by undertaking relevant training courses.  Partnership working with parents is good. Parents are kept well informed about children's progress and have the information they need to support their children's learning at home.  Children are happy, excited and eager to learn and get involved. They behave well and show increasing ability to concentrate and work independently.  The childminder is keen to develop her service. She acts on advice and attends a lot of training to enhance her knowledge even further. Her plans for improvement are well

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not fully support children to develop their understanding of words and their early reading skills.  Occasionally, the childminder puts too much focus on ensuring children take part in planned activities and does not give them enough time to lead and develop their own play.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 extend opportunities for children to develop their interest and understanding of the printed word  provide more opportunities for children to lead and develop their own play.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector spoke with the childminder and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection and made observations of children present.  The inspector looked at children's assessment records and planning documentation.  The inspector and childminder discussed an activity children were involved in.  The inspector reviewed the evidence of the childminder's suitability to work with children, her safeguarding policies and procedures and a range of other supporting documentation.  The inspector took account of the views of parents, provided in writing.

who attend. This is good

The childminder offers children a range of interesting and age-appropriate learning experiences, both in the home and outdoors. Planning is based on children's interests. However, the childminder does not consistently make the most of spontaneous opportunities for children to follow their own ideas. As a result, children are not always able to extend their thinking even further. Children have their curiosity awakened when they explore bubbles blowing in the garden or play in the sand. They make marks with paint and chalks. They happily climb into small tents and count in everyday activities. Children explore words, such as 'crinkly' with good support from the enthusiastic and caring childminder. Some opportunities to extend children's understanding of words and their early reading skills are missed. For example, the environment is not rich in print and signs to ignite children's interest in words and maximise their understanding. The

childminder talks to children about what they are doing and encourages their participation in activities. Consequently, children are well supported to practise and refine a number of skills. Therefore, children make good progress in their development and learning and are developing skills in readiness for school.

good

Children have a warm and close relationship with the childminder. She cuddles children and gives them reassurance, which helps to settle them. Consequently, children's emotional well-being is effectively supported. Their self-esteem is high as the childminder continually praises their efforts and achievements. The childminder encourages lots of conversation to ensure children are fully involved and listened to, at all times. Children respect each other's feelings. Children are learning to live healthily and their daily routine ensures there is plenty of exercise and fresh air. They learn how to use their bodies in different ways, moving confidently around the home. For example, the youngest children practise going up and down small steps. Children develop strong independence skills.

p.3

provision is good

The childminder has good understanding of her responsibilities in meeting the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage. She understands her duties to safeguard children, and implements policies and safe working practices effectively to support children's safety and well-being. The childminder's qualifications and experience impact positively on the quality of care she provides to children. The childminder works in close partnership with parents and other professionals to support and promote each child's learning needs. Relevant information is exchanged with parents and other settings children may attend from the outset of care.
