who attend. This is good

The childminder completes observations and regular assessments of children's achievements to ensure that they are making good progress. This helps prepare them for their next stage in learning. The children enjoy books and have favourites which they like to read with the childminder. The activities provided are interesting, challenging and the children enjoy taking part. The childminder uses a good range of questions to support children in thinking for themselves the majority of the time. However, on occasions she does not maximise these opportunities and sometimes answers before children have had time to process their own thoughts. The childminder shares information with parents about children's progress. However, the strategies for encouraging parents to share more information about children's learning at home are not always as successful.

good

The childminder provides children with a very stimulating, safe and homely environment in which to play and learn. This helps children to settle quickly, grow in confidence and form positive relationships. The childminder provides many accessible, age-appropriate toys and resources. This helps children to be motivated in their play and make independent choices. Children are encouraged to do many things for themselves to help prepare them for their move to school. The childminder provides a good range of activities indoors and outdoors. This supports children's preferred learning styles and promotes their physical well-being effectively. The childminder provides a range of healthy and nutritious meals and snacks for children. This helps raise children's awareness of food that is good for them and develop an understanding of healthy lifestyles.

The childminder gives simple explanations to children regarding safety. This helps children build an awareness of how to act safely. The childminder is committed to promoting good quality practice for children and their parents. She takes into account the views of parents when evaluating her provision and has plans for further development. The childminder understands the importance of building links with other settings in order to promote consistency of care.
