The setting meets legal requirements for early years settings

p.1

This provision is good

 The childminder takes time to get to know the children well. Therefore, children show they feel secure and confident in their environment.  The childminder completes regular observations and uses this information well to plan effectively to help children develop in their next stage of learning.  The childminder provides good opportunities for physical play. The childminder plans local trips for children to ensure they have the opportunity to develop their social skills in preparation for their next stage of learning.  The childminder regularly updates her training to ensure that she has current knowledge of childcare practices. Consequently, she demonstrates a secure understanding of safeguarding procedures and how to refer concerns.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Although the childminder provides opportunities for children to be creative, she does not always provide resources that encourage children to express themselves through role play, to develop their imaginations fully.  The childminder provides resources that promote sensory experiences for young children; however, they are not always easily accessible to children.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 provide a wider range of opportunities for children to develop their imagination and learning through role play  make resources that encourage young children to explore through their senses more frequently available to them.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector spoke with the childminder at appropriate times throughout the inspection about her practice and the systems she uses for observation, assessment and planning.  The inspector observed the childminder and children taking part in activities in the home.  The inspector sampled documents the childminder uses to support her practice, including relevant policies, consent forms, daily registers and children's development records.  The inspector took into account parents' views by sampling written documents made available during the inspection.

who attend. This is good

The childminder's home is welcoming and very inviting to children, as she ensures that toys and resources are easily accessible. The childminder completes regular observations of children and checks that children are making good progress in all areas of learning. The childminder provides a running commentary on what children do and she promotes their communication skills. In addition, she supports parents to help children in their learning and development at home. For example, she shares information about physical development and gives parents suggestions to help their children become confident with walking. Children have fun developing their imaginations through art activities; however, the childminder does not always provide resources to encourage role play, to develop children's imaginations fully.

good

Children are happy and confident in their environment, which shows that the childminder takes time to get to know them well. Furthermore, she gathers relevant information about children's individual needs and starting points, to help her plan accordingly. As a result, children are making good progress in their personal, social and emotional development. The childminder promotes children's awareness of staying healthy; for example, encouraging children to be independent in self-care routines such as hand washing and wiping their nose. The childminder provides nutritious snacks. All of these factors contribute to children's growing awareness of healthy lifestyles. Children behave well and show good self-control during activities, as they remain focused and are willing to have a go. For example, children show determination to hammer pegs through holes. Children enjoy exploring sensory materials; however, these are not always readily available for

children to choose from as part of their daily routines.

p.3

provision is good

The childminder completes daily risk assessments to ensure children are able to play safely in her premises. She has a good knowledge of safeguarding, including any signs that would give her cause for concern. She provides daily feedback to parents and makes her assessments of their children's progress available, inviting their comments on their children's progress at home. The childminder is committed to improving the quality of the provision and to her ongoing professional development. She gains the views of the parents regarding the quality of care and learning and uses this information to plan for improvements to benefit the children's learning and development. The childminder encourages parents to share experiences from home, to extend children's learning further and develop positive partnerships with parents.
