This provision is good
Children are happy and settled in the childminder's home. They delight in the activities available to them and use resources to follow their own interest. Children benefit from the good selection of resources, which they can use in a variety of ways. Toys and resources are stored at a low level and children help themselves. Children are motivated to learn and interested in what they choose to do. The childminder successfully guides their interests and stimulates learning through play. This contributes to children developing their thinking and their ability to solve problems. Children have many opportunities to learn how to care for living things and enjoy helping to care for the childminder's pets. Children's behaviour is good. The childminder has clear and consistent routines and boundaries in place, and children respond well to requests made of them. Children's welfare and safety are a priority. The childminder follows effective processes

to assess potential risks to children and minimise them. Partnerships between parents, the childminder and other early years providers are good. Effective methods for sharing information contribute towards the continuity of care for all children.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Opportunities for children to develop their interest in print and recognise familiar words and signs in the environment are still evolving and therefore have not had maximum impact on this aspect of children's learning.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector viewed the areas of the premises used for childminding. The inspector took account of the parents' views through written feedback. The inspector spoke to the childminder about her processes for observing and assessing children's learning. The inspector checked evidence of the suitability of the childminder and family members, the childminder's qualifications and processes for self-evaluation. The inspector observed the childminder completing an activity and discussed the learning opportunities.

who attend. This is good
Children's attention and natural curiosity to learn are captured by the childminder through the activities she provides and the good quality teaching. The childminder observes, assesses and identifies each child's future learning needs, helping them to make progress. Children develop a good understanding of their own health and well-being. They learn about and try a wide variety of foods. Children's independence grows as they use cutlery to prepare their own snacks, while learning the importance of using them safely. Children make marks using a variety of pens, pencils and chalks, and practise their early writing skills. However, opportunities for them to see print and become familiar with words and signs are not yet established in the learning environment. Children are very caring towards the childminder's pets and enjoy helping to care for them. They help to feed and tend to them, while learning the importance of being careful when touching them. Children meet

other children at groups they attend and develop good social skills. They develop confidence and the skills of negotiation which help as they prepare for the move to school.

good
The childminder creates a home that is relaxed and welcoming. Children are supported when they start in the childminder's care as time is spent gradually getting to know them and their families. Detailed information is gathered from parents in order to effectively meet their child's needs and provide care accordingly. Children behave well and their confidence and self-esteem are nurtured through the praise and encouragement they receive. Children benefit from fresh air and exercise and time is spent outdoors each day. They enjoy using wheeled toys and climbing equipment and their physical development is promoted. Trips to places of interest are used well to develop children's understanding of the world around them.

provision is good
The childminder is well qualified, attends a wide variety of training courses and continually extends her knowledge of good childcare. The childminder has embraced information gained on a recent course about emotional attachments to help in the process for settling children into her home. The children see the strong relationships that she builds with parents and they settle and relax easily. Safety is addressed well throughout the home and garden, and the supervision of children is good. Policies and procedures reflect the childminder's ethos of care. All documentation and information relating to children is held securely and within the boundaries of confidentiality. Children are safeguarded and the childminder's knowledge of protecting children from abuse and neglect is secure. The childminder seeks the views of parents and children about the care she provides and evaluates her own practice to ensure that the quality of her service remains at a high
