This provision is good
The childminder's teaching is good. She has a good knowledge and understanding of the learning and development requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage. She understands how children learn and uses a variety of teaching techniques to ensure all children make good progress. The childminder has a high regard for the safety of children. She has a good awareness of child protection issues, which means that she safeguards children effectively. The childminder is well qualified and she has a strong commitment to training to promote her professional development. She involves parents in children's learning so that they work together to meet children's individual learning needs. Children's emotional well-being is effectively promoted because they play and learn in a homely and friendly environment. Therefore, children show independence and confidence in the childminder's home. The childminder identifies the strengths and weaknesses in her practice in order to plan

improvements. She has a clear drive for the continuous improvement of her service. As a result, learning outcomes for children continue to improve. The childminder regularly takes children on outings into the local community. This extends their physical play as they visit nearby parks, and increases their awareness of their local environment.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder has yet to fully explore further ways to obtain initial information about children's achievements from parents. The childminder does not always provide enough opportunities for children to develop mathematical language and learn about quantity and measure.

who attend. This is good
The childminder has a good understanding of how young children learn. She records children's stage of development and uses photographs and observations to track children's progress and inform her planning. Children enjoy a range of activities that are fun, age appropriate and interesting. The childminder makes good use of her well-resourced garden to engage children who prefer to be outdoors. She encourages them to make links in learning by helping them to recall real-life experiences. They enthusiastically scoop and pour cereal between containers, developing physical coordination. The childminder uses a wide range of questioning techniques, introduces new words and allows children time to be able to think and answer. However, the childminder does not always provide enough opportunities for children to learn about quantity and measure or use mathematical language. Nevertheless, all children are making good progress from their starting points.

good
Children have very good relationships with the childminder and each other. This is because she has a good understanding of age-appropriate behaviour management techniques. Children help to tidy up and are very pleased when they are praised by the childminder. This successfully promotes their confidence and self-esteem. Information gathered from parents is used well by the childminder to follow children's care routines effectively. However, she does not always seek enough information about children's prior learning to enable her to precisely assess their starting points. The childminder takes children to groups so that they have good opportunities to mix socially with other children. This helps children develop the confidence to embrace change, such as starting school or nursery. The childminder supports children to develop healthy lifestyles and provides them with a variety of nutritious snacks and meals and plenty of fresh air and exercise. This

promotes their physical well-being and children develop a positive attitude to keeping healthy.

provision is good
The childminder's capacity to continually improve is good. She evaluates her practice comprehensively and has a strong commitment to developing this, with lots of ongoing training to further enhance her knowledge. The childminder has effective partnerships with parents to enable frequent sharing of information. This includes a written summary of the progress check for children between the ages of two and three years. This helps to ensure that all children are working within expected levels. Parents' written comments state how much their children enjoy being with the childminder. This ensures children benefit from positive learning experiences in a welcoming atmosphere. The childminder understands her duties to safeguard children and implements policies and safe working practices well to promote children's safety and well-being. All adults who live in the setting have undergone appropriate checks, and as a result, children are kept safe and secure.
