p.1

This provision is good

 The childminder promotes children's well-being highly effectively. Safeguarding is at the heart of the childminder's practice and her extremely strong skills as the children's key person mean that they form strong emotional attachments to her.  Children make good developmental progress because of the strong play programme and teaching they receive from the childminder, who offers them very good interaction and support. She monitors their progress carefully and plans for their individual next steps in learning. Therefore, they make good progress and develop good future skills in readiness for school.  There is a high-quality partnership with parents and other professionals working with the children. Excellent communication with them about the children's care and education means that collaborative working takes place, which benefits the children greatly.  The well-organised, competent childminder meets all requirements well and has a high

commitment and focus on improving outcomes for children. Good use of professional childcare magazines and extensive training keeps her knowledge up to date.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 On occasions, the programme for expressive arts and design is too adult-directed. At times, children are expected to produce a pre-determined end product, rather than freely expressing themselves using the materials of their choice to represent their own ideas.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

 extend the programme for expressive arts and design, particularly by promoting children's free expression using a variety of media and materials, and encouraging them to develop their own design ideas.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed children's play activities and the childminder's interactions.  The inspector held discussions with the childminder about the children and looked at their learning records.  The inspector sampled safeguarding and leadership documentation.  The inspector viewed some feedback questionnaires from parents.  The inspector undertook a joint observation with the childminder.

who attend. This is good

The childminder has a secure understanding of how to support children successfully in their play and learning. She has good knowledge of child development and uses effective teaching strategies. Children have fun with a childminder who skilfully interacts with and challenges them, enabling them to make good progress. Children learn valuable communication skills and new vocabulary through the childminder's clear support in well- planned, freely-chosen play and during adult-led activities. Young children remain focused and engaged during play activities. They excitedly explore the garden looking for minibeasts and talk a lot about what they have found. Children animatedly investigate the sand; they bury and talk about the toy creatures. The childminder is careful to extend children's understanding of the world through the spontaneous conversations. When they show an interest in numbers, the childminder is right beside them encouraging them to

write numerals on the chalkboard, which they do successfully.

outstanding

Children flourish in this nurturing and enabling home where their well-being is promoted exceptionally well. Children have an extremely strong bond with the childminder and relate to her with great ease. They benefit from her calm, devoted, warm attention, and feel safe and secure. Children behave and cooperate extremely well and show, from a young age, care and helpfulness towards others. They are involved in checking the garden for any hazards and alert the childminder if they find any risks so she can remove them promptly. The childminder gives excellent attention to promoting children's physical development. They regularly play in the garden, which is a rich learning environment, and have plenty of fresh air and exercise. Children experience good physical challenges to develop their large movements, such as when using the mini trampoline. They benefit from nutritious snacks and meals at regular intervals throughout the day, helping them

provision is good

The childminder is successful in meeting the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage. She ensures required documentation is complete, well organised and easily available. The childminder has a secure knowledge of the safeguarding procedures and is alert to any child protection concerns. The self-reflective childminder shows a very strong commitment to the service she offers. Since her last inspection, she has developed her knowledge of teaching and learning practice by gaining a foundation degree in early years, and has improved the outdoor learning environment. She has also gained a better insight into children's thought processes during play and learning. She gains parents' opinions on her service through questionnaires, all of which are positive.
