The childminder is highly skilled in recognising the uniqueness of each child and providing for their individual needs and interests. The children enjoy a highly challenging and playful time as they learn in this highly inspirational and motivating environment. The childminder has created a play space where the children are confident to express themselves. The childminder uses highly successful systems to assess each child and these show how the children make excellent progress. The childminder fully encourages children to follow their own ideas and interests. This supports their strong abilities to be independent in the decisions they make. For example, children can decide whether to play inside or outside. The childminder does not consistently use the wider environment to promote children's learning. However, she uses the garden well to encourage children to learn, explore and develop new skills. For instance, she encourages children to use a swing by themselves.

outstanding

The childminder makes comprehensive and precise records when children start in her care to ensure that she gains a thorough understanding of the needs of each child. She builds on children's interests extremely well. For example, children's interest in bugs and spiders led to exciting plans to make spiders, sing songs and use a microscope to study small creatures. The children are very secure and enjoy cuddles and affection from the childminder, which help to promote their feelings of safety and self-worth. Children are positively encouraged to take safe risks, for example, as they try to go a little higher on the swing. This means that all children develop high levels of confidence in their own abilities. Children lead in their play and independently choose from a very wide variety of high-quality toys and resources. For example, they decide to make music with a guitar and keyboard. Children thoroughly enjoy dancing to the music they make. The childminder is
