p.1

This provision requires improvement. It is not yet good because:

 The quality of teaching is not good enough to ensure that children make the best progress they can.  Partnerships with parents and other settings are not strong enough. As a result, the childminder does not have all relevant information to help her identify and plan for children's next steps in learning.

p.1

It has the following strengths

 The childminder is committed to continued improvement. Since her last inspection, the childminder has worked to improve her knowledge and understanding of the learning and development requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage. This has had a positive impact on her practice.  Children's warm interactions with the childminder show that they have a close bond with her. The childminder is observant and responds to their wants and needs. As a result, children are settled and happy.  The childminder demonstrates a secure understanding of safeguarding issues. This helps to keep children safe and protect them from harm.  The childminder carries out regular risk assessments of the indoor and outdoor areas, resources and equipment. This helps to ensure that the environment is suitable for children to use.  The childminder has improved her observations and assessments of children's ongoing achievements. This has helped her to correctly identify their next steps in learning. The

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To meet the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage the provider must:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 ensure that teaching consistently increases the potential to achieve the best possible progress in children's learning  make sure that partnerships with parents and other settings children attend, are effective in encouraging the sharing of information that supports good planning for children's future progress.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed activities in the childminder's home and the outdoor environment.  The inspector evaluated a planned activity with the childminder.  The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector looked at children's records and a range of other documents, including training certificates and suitability checks.

who attend. This requires improvement

The childminder has worked closely with the local authority to improve her practice. She now understands how and when to carry out the progress check for children between the ages of two and three years. The childminder has also improved her procedures in readiness for when new children begin, to help her gather information about what they can do at the very start. The childminder models the use of correct words back to children to promote their language skills. She also encourages children to count, name colours and to make three-letter words. The childminder occasionally increases the challenge by asking children to make up their own three-letter word. However, the quality of teaching is not consistent. The childminder lacks confidence and does not have high enough expectations of herself. As a result, teaching needs improvement. She does not always challenge children sufficiently to help them further extend their learning and make the best progress

p.3

requires improvement

The childminder is a suitable role model. She has a calm approach to managing behaviour and promotes polite language and consideration for others. As a result, children are well behaved and learn how to cooperate with others. The childminder reads stories to children about starting school and talks to them about what to expect. This helps children to be emotionally ready for school. The childminder promotes healthy eating. Children plant and tend vegetables, such as carrots, that they use in their snacks. Children enjoy playing outside and visiting local parks. They learn the importance of good hygiene practice, such as washing and drying their hands after using the toilet. This helps to promote children's understanding of a healthy lifestyle. The childminder has also improved her nappy changing procedures and how babies are bottle fed. This has improved their care and safety.

p.3

provision requires improvement

The childminder shares details of children's progress with parents. However, she is not as successful in encouraging parents or other early years settings involved in children's care and learning, to share information about what children are achieving over time. This means that the childminder is not always aware of children's emerging skills, and therefore, she cannot plan as precisely as possible to help them extend these skills. Following her last inspection, the childminder has taken some appropriate action to address the actions and recommendations raised. She has also identified that she needs to continue developing her practice to help her deliver the best outcomes for children that she can.
