This provision is good
The childminder has a good range of resources and encourages children to make independent choices in their play and learning. The childminder works very closely with parents to get to know children and their starting points. Observations, assessments and planning are effective as the childminder takes children's individual needs into account. The childminder is fully committed to supporting children to reach their full learning potential. As a result, children make good progress in their development. The childminder is a positive role model and helps children learn to keep the environment tidy and safe. Children behave well. The childminder demonstrates a secure understanding of safeguarding. She is knowledgeable about the procedures to follow for reporting child protection issues which may raise cause for concern.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always provide opportunities for children to experience some aspects of understanding the world. For example, she does not encourage children to develop their awareness of information technology or increase their understanding of diversity and disabled people.

who attend. This is good
The childminder has a secure knowledge of the learning and development requirements for the Early Years Foundation Stage. She is attentive and sensitively supports children's individual needs. The childminder continually engages children in conversation, expanding their vocabulary as she follows their interests. For example, she plans a variety of activities around their interest in minibeasts. Children have a range of opportunities to use language to consider the differences in insects, such as the sounds they make and their number of legs. They also describe real minibeasts as they observe them using magnifying glasses. The childminder supports older children extremely well in their mathematical development, particularly their understanding of numbers and counting. As a result, children count reliably during play routines. This fully supports their learning and prepares them well for school.
p.3
good
The childminder provides a safe and welcoming environment for children, where they settle quickly. Parents comment that children are happy and that they love attending. The childminder provides healthy snacks for children and fresh drinking water is readily available. Children show high levels of independence as they move freely and access toys and other play equipment. Older children use the toilet independently and wash their hands after use. All children greatly enjoy physical activity in the garden, where the childminder provides a good range of play experiences. This helps to promote their physical well-being. Children regularly participate in evacuation drills, so they know what to do and how to behave in an emergency. These experiences positively contribute to children developing a sense of danger and knowing how to keep themselves safe.
p.3
provision is good
The childminder has a secure knowledge of the safeguarding and welfare requirements for the Early Years Foundation Stage. She has made a good start to childminding and has highly informative policies and procedures, which support her good practice. This has a positive impact on children's well-being and their learning and development. The childminder makes ongoing improvements as part of her self-evaluation process. She is committed to continual professional development to improve outcomes for children. For example, she has attended a course on healthy eating, which she has been able to use effectively to develop children's awareness of healthy lifestyles. The childminder maintains continuity for children's learning and care because of the effective partnerships she has with parents and local schools.
