p.1

This provision is good

 The childminder has a good understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage. She effectively complements children's learning in school to help them make good progress.  Children are well behaved in this well-organised, warm and friendly home environment. They share close bonds and attachments with the childminder and are happy and relaxed.  The childminder has a good understanding of her responsibilities to safeguard children. She has written policies and procedures to follow, should she have a concern about a child in her care. As a result, children are cared for in an environment that promotes their safety and well-being.  Children follow good hygiene routines. They enjoy healthy snacks which promote their good health.  Partnership with parents is good. The childminder gathers information from parents about their child before they start. She uses this to meet the individual needs of children.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 There is not enough focus placed on encouraging children to make marks to record things and explain what these mean.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

who attend. This is good

The childminder collects information from children's parents and the local school. This information and her own observations of children's play and interactions are used to plan stimulating learning experiences. As a result, children are provided with a wide range of interesting activities and resources that are based on their individual needs and interests. Children happily choose what they would like to play with. Interactions between the childminder and children are warm and friendly, allowing children to confidently talk about their school day. Children enjoy playing various games, and often count as they play. However, they have fewer opportunities to record their counting, using marks that they can interpret and explain. Children use technology to play virtual tennis, enthusiastically competing with each other. Their communication and language skills are developed as they talk about and share their favourite books with the childminder. Children's

mathematical development is supported through playing board games and enjoying cooking activities. These activities complement what children learn in school.

good

Children play well together in this well-organised environment. There are clear routines and boundaries which children understand and follow. Younger children are helped by the older children to play games. Their independence is promoted as they prepare their own snack and manage their own personal hygiene. Children are polite and well mannered, sharing and taking turns with the resources. The childminder helps children to understand risks by talking to them about road safety on their walks to and from school. They also learn to stay safe in the event of a fire through practising fire drills. The outside area has a range of age-appropriate resources which encourage physical activity. Children also enjoy outings to local attractions and the park, where they enjoy playing on swings and climbing frames. This encourages children to be active and promotes good health through exercise. The childminder helps children to be emotionally prepared for their next stage in learning.

p.3

good

She talks to them about their new teachers and engages older children in describing their experiences of school. This provides children with reassurance and confidence about times of change.

p.3

provision is good

The childminder keeps up to date with current practice by attending training. She also regularly meets with other childminders to share ideas, and receives support from the local early years advisor. Comments from parents are very complimentary. The childminder seeks the views of parents verbally and through questionnaires. She identifies her strengths and weaknesses and uses this information to continually improve her childminding service. The premises are safe and secure because the childminder carries out regular risk assessments on her home and for outings.
