The setting meets legal requirements for early years settings

p.1

This provision is good

 The childminder provides stimulating activities for children. She closely monitors children's progress. This results in all children being able to make good progress in relation to their starting points.  The childminder works effectively with parents. She makes sure they are kept informed about their children's developmental progress, so they are able to work together to support children's individual needs. This is reflected in the positive feedback that parents provide.  The childminder has a secure understanding of her responsibilities for safeguarding children and understands what action to take if she had concerns about a child in her care. This helps protect children's welfare.  The childminder has good links with local schools and nurseries. She shares information to help support continuity of care and learning, and provides support for their move on to the next stage in their early education.

p.1

This provision is good

 The childminder regularly reviews and reflects on her practice to make on-going improvements. This results in the childminder meeting children's needs well.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not consistently find out about the languages that children speak at home, to increase opportunities for children to use their home languages.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

who attend. This is good

The childminder's home is very welcoming and well resourced. Toys are well organised and stored accessibly, which encourages children to make independent choices in their play. The childminder teaches children skills that prepare them effectively for the next stage of their learning and school. She extends children's communication and language skills well, overall. Children enjoy songs. For example, they name parts of their body as they join in singing. The childminder extends children's vocabulary and mathematical language by introducing new words during play. For example, she talks about position and size as children race vehicles. Children thoroughly enjoy imaginative play. The quality of teaching is good as the childminder joins in enthusiastically while also giving children space to continue to develop their own ideas.

p.3

good

Children develop a strong sense of belonging in the childminder's home. The childminder forms strong attachments with the children, which supports their emotional well-being and emotionally prepares them for changes, such as when they move on to school. This results in children developing confidence and self-esteem. The childminder encourages children to develop a good understanding of healthy lifestyles. They enjoy regular exercise and healthy food. Young children's care needs are met well; the childminder quickly notices when they need changing. The childminder helps children learn how to stay safe. For example, she teaches road safety and provides opportunities for children to participate in evacuation procedures. The childminder risk assesses her premises and for outings. This ensures children are able to play safely.

p.3

provision is good

The childminder has a good understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage requirements, which results in her providing a good service that meets children's needs well. The professional and enthusiastic childminder demonstrates a good commitment to continually developing her practice. She takes account of parents' views and observes children's engagement in activities. This helps her to reflect on her practice and to continually improve outcomes for children. The childminder attends relevant training and conferences to enhance her knowledge; for example, opportunities for children at two years old. This helps the childminder to develop a sharper focus on children's needs and to apply her skills to practice. The childminder understands how to seek additional support for children and work with other professionals when required.
