p.1
This provision is good
The childminder observes and assesses children's development regularly to identify their interests and any gaps in their learning. This helps her to plan activities to effectively stimulate their learning and guide their progress towards the early learning goals. The childminder works in close partnership with parents. She provides them with daily updates of their children's time at the setting and this helps them to continue children's learning at home. Parents express the view that the childminder is reliable, trustworthy and flexible. Children develop warm and positive relationships with the childminder. Therefore, they are settled and happy in her care. This promotes their emotional well-being. The childminder has a secure knowledge of the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage. She meets regularly with other childminders and shares ideas with them to develop her practice further and continually improve outcomes for children.
p.1
This provision is good
The childminder ensures children's safety by completing regular risk assessments. She has a good knowledge and understanding of child protection issues and the procedures to follow if she is concerned about children's well-being.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Occasionally, the childminder does not support children effectively to learn to wait and take turns during conversations. There are fewer opportunities for children to learn about people with special educational needs and/or disabilities so they learn to value differences.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

who attend. This is good
Children explored eagerly in the childminder's garden, hunting for mini-beasts and investigating them with a magnifying glass. They developed their understanding of the natural world as they identified parts of the garden where mini-beasts hide, for example, under plant pots. The childminder effectively extended their learning by asking them to count the snails. This promotes children's mathematical development and helps to prepare them for their move to school. Children used their imagination to make interesting models with play dough. For example, they made fruits such as bananas and apples. The childminder closely assisted young children to use cutters, rollers and play scissors to make their models. This promotes their physical development. The childminder knows the children well and provides appropriate resources for younger and older children to work alongside each other. For example, she provided an easier puzzle for younger children and

older children worked with a more challenging puzzle. Therefore, the individual needs of children are met and all children enjoy what they do.

Children behave well because the childminder consistently prompts them to use polite words and share and take turns well during play. This develops their social skills. The childminder provides nutritious meals and snacks for children and talks to them about the effect of healthy eating on their body. For example, she tells them they need to eat well to have lots of energy to run around and play. Therefore, children begin to understand why they should make healthy choices. The childminder provides appropriate seating, such as a booster seat at mealtimes to promote children's independence. She encourages children to adopt hygiene practices such as washing their hands before eating. This promotes their health and well-being.
p.3
provision is good
The childminder seeks the views of parents and children to reflect on the quality of her setting and identify areas that need improvement. This enables her to identify additional relevant training. Consequently, the self-evaluation process is effective and helps her to continually improve outcomes for children. She completes necessary training to fully meet the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage and to maintain good standards in children's care and learning. She closely monitors children's progress and works in partnership with parents and outside agencies to support children with special educational needs and/or disabilities. Consequently, all children make good progress towards the next stages in their learning.
