Children thoroughly enjoy their time in the childminder's care. They benefit highly because the childminder has an excellent understanding of how they learn through play. As a result, children become very effective learners and are successfully acquiring the skills needed for moving on to school. For example, children are actively encouraged by the childminder to develop their literacy skills; they link sounds to letters and are shown how to form letters correctly. The childminder successfully uses individual one-to-one time to develop children's listening and attention skills. For example, during craft activities, such as making puppets, children listen intently and follow instructions to mix their desired colour of paint.
