who attend. This is outstanding

The childminder works very closely with parents, sharing information about children's achievements. This helps the childminder to plan activities which will interest children and extend their learning. The childminder gives parents ideas of activities to complement children's learning at home if they ask her. However, she does not extend this to all parents, which means that some partnerships are not as fully promoted. Children benefit from excellent play and learning opportunities. The childminder plans a highly effective range of activities from which children can choose and adapt to their own purpose. For example, children combine the water play with the dinosaur landscape to create a new play world. The childminder is an excellent judge of when to talk with children and suggest different ideas, and when to stand back and let the child lead. This means that children set their own challenges and are curious and eager learners.

outstanding

The childminder creates an exemplary learning environment in her home and garden. As a result, children enjoy exploring and investigating their surroundings and are highly motivated to play and learn. The childminder is very skilled at promoting children's independence in self-care and decision-making. For example, children help choose when to have a snack so that they can complete what they are playing first. Children spontaneously go to wash their hands after messy play and adopt good hygiene routines. This demonstrates that the childminder is taking excellent care of children's physical care. Children are extremely well-behaved and show great respect for others. For example, older children understand that babies have different needs and abilities and make allowance for them in play. Overall, children acquire excellent skills to help them in their future learning.

p.3

provision is outstanding

The childminder has an extremely professional approach to her work and undertakes regular study and research to develop her skills further. This is of great benefit to her work as a childminder, as she continually enhances her teaching skills. The childminder analyses children's progress to address any achievement gaps and also to see where she can further promote the skills of gifted and talented children. For example, she consults with her local school to see how best to extend and challenge children using activities consistent with the school's methods. The childminder reviews children's learning in detail to identify where she can make improvements. Similarly, the childminder works very closely with other day care settings children attend so that they can enhance each other's work. This demonstrates excellent partnership working in support of children's learning.
