This provision is good
Teaching is good. The childminder has a very good understanding of how young children learn and develop. She uses effective strategies to promote children's language, communication and mathematical skills. This helps children gain the key skills needed to be ready for school. The childminder knows her children well. She plans activities that are tailored to children's individual needs and interests. This helps to support their all-round development. The childminder uses accurate assessments to monitor children's progress and to identify any gaps in their learning and development. This ensures all children including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities make good progress. Partnerships with other settings and professionals are effective in supporting children's care, learning and development. Good transition arrangements help to prepare children for their next stage in learning and the move to school.
p.1
This provision is good
The childminder is well qualified and shows a commitment to improving her practice by regularly attending training sessions and by keeping her knowledge of early years up to date.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always encourage parents to share information relating to what their children can do at home. There are fewer opportunities for younger children to explore a wide range of natural resources independently.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

strengthen the already good partnerships with parents by ensuring that they have opportunities to discuss children's progress at home. provide a wider range of natural materials for younger children to freely explore in order to further develop their investigation skills.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities in the indoor environment. The inspector evaluated a planned activity with the childminder. The inspector looked at a sample of policies and procedures and the childminder's self- evaluation form. The inspector looked at a selection of documents including children's progress files. The inspector held discussions with the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector checked evidence of the qualifications of the childminder and the suitability of adults living on the premises. The inspector took account of parents' comments on the day of the inspection.
p.2
who attend. This is good
The quality of teaching is good. The childminder provides a wide range of learning opportunities for children based upon their individual needs, interests and next steps. For example, the childminder has recently produced an investigation board to support children's interest in springs, latches and bolts. The childminder shares information with parents on a regular basis, such as learning journals and progress summaries. However, parents are not always encouraged to share information that relates to children's learning at home. This means that opportunities to maximise children's learning are sometimes missed. The childminder supports the communication of younger children by repeating words, asking questions and by modelling language. The childminder skilfully includes number problems and counting into daily activities. For example, children count items as they put them inside containers and place numbers in the correct order on a washing line.
p.3
who attend. This is good
Younger children's physical development is promoted well as the childminder supports them to walk and take steps independently.
p.3
good
Children are very happy and settled in this homely environment. The childminder has formed close relationships with children and this helps supports their emotional well-being and self-esteem. The childminder works with parents when children first start the setting to establish what children can already do. Children are safeguarded well and involved in discussions that promote their personal safety. Children benefit from regular trips to the local park and are given opportunities to be active, such as by taking part in a sports day event. This helps promote children's physical skills and develops their understanding of a healthy lifestyle. Children are encouraged to be independent and access a wide range of toys and equipment. However, there are fewer opportunities for younger children to explore a wide range of natural resources and materials to help promote their investigation skills further.
p.3
provision is good
The childminder is well qualified and has a very good understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage. She attends regular training, such as safeguarding and health and nutrition. This helps the childminder to implement new ideas and offer advice to parents. The childminder evaluates her practice to identify areas for improvement and training needs. For example, she has recently developed the outdoor area to enable children to have access to a wider range of learning opportunities and experiences. She actively involves parents and children in this process by considering their views and discussing improvements. The childminder uses her assessments to quickly identify any gaps in children's learning and development. She works effectively with other professionals and seeks advice, to help support children's individual needs. This means all children make good progress in relation to their starting points.
