p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not consistently help older children to build on linking letters and sounds to fully promote their early reading skills. The childminder does not challenge children as much as possible during some physical play activities to help them fully develop an understanding of how to manage risks during play.

who attend. This is good
Children are developing at a good pace and enjoy engaging in fun activities which maintain their interests. For example, children enjoy spending long periods of time playing in the garden with a large ball run, and singing songs and rhymes in a small group with the childminder. The childminder uses good questioning techniques after the children sing a song about spacemen, which enables children to think and learn new meanings. These discussions also lead to the childminder promoting children's understanding of the world as he extends their knowledge of different planets. Children have good opportunities to develop their communication and language skills because the childminder includes children in various conversations. He helps the older children extremely well as they learn about numbers for counting. As a result, children count reliably during play routines, so the childminder fully promotes their learning and prepares them well for school.
p.3
good
The childminder provides a safe and welcoming environment for children. Children have access to a garden area that has a variety of outdoor play equipment to encourage them to engage in physical exercise. The childminder provides healthy snacks and drinking water is readily available. Children are becoming independent as they feed themselves at mealtimes and pour their own cups of water. Older children independently go to the toilet, so develop good self-care skills. Children regularly participate in fire drills so that they know what to do and how to behave in an emergency. The childminder also takes children out on walks to pick up older children and teaches them about road safety. As a result, children become aware of road safety when out in the community.
p.3
provision is good
The childminder has a secure knowledge of the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage. He implements his comprehensive policies and procedures very well and is committed to continual development to improve outcomes for children. For instance, he has attended several training courses, including one on healthy eating. He has used his updated knowledge well to improve children's understanding of healthy eating and exercise. The childminder uses his self-evaluation process to make ongoing improvements and takes into consideration the views of parents and children to improve his practice. The childminder has developed effective partnerships with parents and adults at other settings to maintain continuity in children's learning and care.
