p.1

This provision is good

 Assessments of children's progress are sharply focussed and take into consideration prior learning, therefore, their learning needs are fully met.  The childminder promotes effective settling-in procedures. Consequently, children settle well and have formed strong bonds with her.  The childminder praises and encourages children when they achieve. As a result, children are confident and motivated to learn.  The childminder makes good links with early years professionals. This means that children benefit from ongoing support when they make their move to other settings or on to school.  Partnerships with parents are strong and they have every opportunity to contribute to their child's learning. through engaging in specific routines, such as fire drill procedures.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder has not fully established a system to evaluate her practice, in order to make astute and targeted improvements, so children benefit from exceptional teaching.  The childminder does not always provide children with sufficient challenge in their outdoor physical play in the garden.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

who attend. This is good

The childminder has a strong knowledge and understanding of the learning and development requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage. This helps her plan a broad range of activities for children, which are exciting and meet the learning needs of each individual child. For example, young children enjoy operating electronic toys, using various buttons and sounds to aid their learning. They enthusiastically explore tools to make early marks in the sand and enjoy learning where their eyes, feet and toes are, during a song-time activity. The childminder sets realistic, yet challenging targets for children, through the use of quality planning and teaching. In addition to this, accurate progress reports are shared with parents on a daily basis. As a result, young children are making good progress.

p.3

good

The childminder places a strong focus on keeping children healthy. She teaches them about the benefits of healthy lifestyles during care routines. Young children are supported to wash their own hands before snack time. They independently choose their favourite fruit to eat and fresh water to drink. The childminder provides parents with a list of what food they have eaten and what food should be avoided, in order to further support them at home. Children benefit from plenty of exercise in the outdoor area and on trips to the local park. They play in ride-on cars and balance on logs, carefully placed around the garden. The childminder takes children on visits to the local park. However, she does not provide children with sufficient challenge in the garden, in order for them to extend their physical skills and confidence.

p.3

provision is good

The childminder has made significant improvements to the systems for planning and assessing children's development. This is now a strength and testament to the childminder's practice. She is aware of what she needs to improve on and monitors her training needs well. She asks parents for feedback routinely and uses this information to make changes to benefit children's needs. However, the childminder has not fully established a programme to evaluate her practice, in order for her to offer exceptional outcomes for children. The childminder ensures the safety of children in her care is of paramount importance. She has attended safeguarding training, which helps her implement comprehensive procedures to protect children from harm. Additionally, she uses risk assessments to ensure the safety and security of the premises.
