This provision is good
The childminder is very successful in supporting children to develop an excellent awareness of safety. As a result, even the youngest children follow safety instructions consistently, which has a very positive impact on their well-being. The childminder is highly effective in helping children to learn about the importance of healthy lifestyles. Children are very familiar with routines that promote their well-being successfully. The childminder uses good quality, ongoing discussion with children, which has a positive impact on their communication skills and all round learning. The childminder includes all children in activities, adapting these successfully to suit children's individual needs and levels of understanding and enabling all to make good progress. The childminder uses her assessment procedures well to identify children's next steps in learning and to provide challenging experiences relevant to their capabilities.
p.1
This provision is good
The childminder develops positive partnerships with parents to promote continuity between the home and childminding setting. The childminder has a good understanding of procedures to safeguard children and knows what to do if she has concerns.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not offer children an increasingly wide variety of resources to encourage them to be fully confident in exploring and using different textures.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

extend opportunities for children to experience a wider variety of media and materials to encourage them to explore and feel comfortable about using different textures.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities indoors and outdoors. The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector talked to the childminder throughout the inspection about different aspects of her practice. The inspector sampled documentation, including children's assessment records, the childminder's self-evaluation form and written comments from parents.

who attend. This is good
The childminder supports children successfully to make good progress in their listening and attention skills, such as encouraging them to listen carefully to sounds in the environment. She is skilled in using strategies to enhance children's communication and language, for example she provides a narrative for children as they play and models phrasing and sentence structure. The childminder adapts activities skilfully, such as challenging children that are more able to make defined marks as they explore different media. However, she does not provide an increasingly wider range of materials to encourage children to feel fully confident about using different textures. The childminder knows children well and follows their interests when planning activities. For example, she builds on their interest in the natural world by providing resources to help them observe the features of living things more closely. The childminder prepares children well for their

next stages of learning and for school. She works closely with parents, providing guidance that enables them to support children's development at home.

outstanding
The childminder's successful focus on supporting children's listening skills has a particularly positive impact on their understanding of safety rules. Even the very youngest children are fully aware to wait for the childminder before entering the kitchen and to wait sensibly by the front door when opened for visitors. The childminder teaches children very effectively about the importance of keeping themselves safe and healthy. Children understand and follow established routines that help them to do so very well, for example wearing sun hats and having regular drinks in hot weather. Children enjoy picking fruit from the garden; they show an excellent awareness of ensuring it is ripe and clean before eating it. The childminder supports children's understanding of behaviour very well, helping them to share resources and avoid potential conflict.
p.3
provision is good
The childminder has a good understanding of her responsibilities and meets requirements. She involves parents and children in her self-evaluation procedures, with parents providing very positive feedback. Since the last inspection, the childminder has enhanced the presentation and storage of resources to make them more accessible for children. She has attended training courses to enhance her professional development. As a result, she focuses more carefully on promoting children's communication and language skills and this has had a positive impact on children's progress. The childminder targets areas for further development effectively to provide additional opportunities to extend children's learning and development.
