p.1

This provision is good

 The childminder demonstrates a commitment to providing good quality care and learning. She has worked hard to make the required improvements since her last inspection and this has had a good impact on the learning experiences she offers children.  The childminder organises activities which are varied and often follow children's interests. As a result, children are interested in their learning and make good progress in all areas of their development.  The childminder has positive relationships with parents and shares a wide range of information about her childminding service, keeping them well informed about their children's routines and development.  The childminder is a reflective practitioner; she is open to new ideas and to making changes.  Children behave well; they are kind and polite to each other and adults.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not always give children time to think and put their thoughts into words so they can answer her questions.  The childminder sometimes misses opportunities to ask open questions which encourage children to problem solve and develop their skills further.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 enhance children's communication skills by giving them more time to think and form their responses to questions  strengthen interactions with children to encourage their thinking and problem solving skills further.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector spoke to the childminder at appropriate times throughout the inspection.  The inspector looked at children's learning records, planning documentation, and a selection of policies and children's records.  The inspector took account of the views of parents via questionnaires and references seen on the day.  The inspector observed the childminder interacting with the children.

p.2

who attend. This is good

The childminder provides a good range of activities to promote children's learning and development across the seven areas of learning. Children have free access to toys and resources and develop their independence as they make choices and initiate their own play. The childminder provides good support as children use their imaginations during role play, and makes good opportunities to repeat language and introduce new words. She generally interacts well with children, stimulating and developing their learning. However, she does not always give children time to think and put their thoughts into words when she asks them questions. The childminder provides good opportunities for children to develop their physical skills as they complete craft activities or visit the park. She gets down to the children's level and talks to them as they play, although misses some opportunities to ask open questions to encourage children to problem solve and develop

their skills further. The childminder knows children well through making observations and in discussion with parents. She exchanges good quality information about children's development and works with parents to support their children's learning at home. This enables her to set targets for each child to make sure that they maintain good progress.

p.3

good

Young children are very settled and secure and have positive relationships with the childminder. They know about keeping themselves healthy and safe. The childminder regularly reminds them about being careful and following good hygiene routines. She provides children with a wide range of resources and children very much enjoy exploring and finding out what is available. The childminder supports children effectively to ensure that they behave well and learn to be polite to each other. She reminds them about sharing and taking turns, and young children learn to form good friendships. Children benefit from regular trips to toddler groups and local amenities to develop their social skills and confidence. These experiences help them to learn to play and cooperate together, and prepare them for the next step in their life such as starting at pre-school or school.

p.3

provision is good

The childminder has a good knowledge of the learning and development requirements and of her duty to safeguard children. She reviews risks regularly and involves children in tidying up to keep the home safe and secure. Effective record keeping and well organised routines underpin the childminder's good practice. She has clear systems in place to plan and review her implementation of the learning and development requirements and to ensure that children are making good progress. The childminder has accessed training since her last inspection and this has enabled her to made improvements to her planning and assessments. Strong partnerships with parents, and other professionals and settings provide consistency in care and learning for all children.
