The setting meets legal requirements for early years settings

p.1

This provision is good

 Children progress well in their learning. This is because the childminder organises a broad range of activities and provides stimulating resources for children.  The childminder has developed good systems of observation and assessment, which focus on children's ongoing development. Consequently, she quickly identifies any gaps in their learning and development and closes them through focused planning.  The children easily develop close bonds with the childminder. Through the childminder's carefully planned settling-in, new children quickly feel safe and secure in the setting.  The childminder effectively supports young children's developing language skills. She constantly talks to them, introduces new vocabulary and praises their every attempt at using new words.  Children regularly use the garden to play and develop their physical skills. They take part in regular outings in the local area, which helps to broaden their experiences and

become familiar with their locality.  The childminder has a good knowledge and understanding how to safeguard children. She knows different signs that may be cause for concern and who to contact to protect children's welfare. She updates her good safeguarding knowledge by attending suitable courses. As a result, the childminder keeps children safe in her care.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Although there are many stimulating resources, the childminder does not use the outdoor environment for those children that learn better outdoors to see words, labels and symbols to stimulate early reading, letter and number recognition.

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

 build more opportunities for children who learn better outdoors to expand their growing literacy and numeracy skills.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed activities and the childminder's interaction with children throughout the inspection.  The inspector sampled children's observations, planning and assessments, and looked at registration records.  The inspector checked evidence of the childminder's and her family's suitability and sampled documentation.  The inspector held conversations with the childminder, parents and children during the inspection.

p.2

who attend. This is good

The childminder has a good knowledge of Early Years Foundation Stage. She ensures she gathers enough information about the children when they start to plan activities that help them move to the next stage in their development. The childminder provides good support to young children in their activities and stays close to babies so that they feel secure. Babies respond positively to the childminder's close attention and babble happily, developing good communication skills. They begin to copy actions, which promotes their physical development. The childminder follows children's interests and ensures they have stimulating activities to suit their age. For example, babies used bright musical and talking toys to learn first words and colours, while the older children made complex jigsaw puzzles of their own choice. The childminder prepares children well for the next stages in their learning.

p.3

outstanding

Children enjoy their time with the childminder and are confident and happy. They behave extremely well. This is because the childminder is an exceptional role model and teaches children to be kind, polite and use good manners. Children learn to respect others and take account of others' differences. For example, children create their own paper people using different coloured bodies, cultural and religious outfits. These skills help children get ready for the move onto nursery or school. The childminder helps children keep healthy and well by providing nutritious meals, teaching hygiene rules and ensuring children have regular fresh air. As a result, children are aware about the importance of healthy eating and exercise. The childminder meets children's individual dietary needs exceptionally well and ensures she has a visual reminder of all allergens in her kitchen.

p.3

provision is good

The childminder meets the requirements of her role. She has made good progress since her last inspection. She uses her assessments to plan motivating experiences for children that help them make good progress and evaluates her practice well. She continues to develop her childcare knowledge through internet searches and sharing experiences with other childminders. The childminder demonstrates commitment to ongoing improvement by reflecting on her practice and by taking into account parents' and children's views. For example, she has purchased a sand pit after the children's suggestion. The childminder has strong and positive partnerships with parents and other settings that children attend, which helps provide a consistent approach for the children's educational progress. The childminder provides children with good-quality care and learning opportunities throughout the day.
