p.1

This provision is good

 The childminder provides a high-quality play environment with good opportunities for children to freely investigate and develop all areas of learning.  Children make good progress in their learning and development. The childminder uses her secure knowledge of their individual needs and interests to provide a wide variety of exciting activities. This encourages their natural curiosity to learn.  The childminder builds effective partnerships with new parents. This ensures children's individual needs are identified from the beginning. Consequently, children settle well and are happy in the childminder's care.  Children are safe and secure as the childminder and her assistant have a good understanding of safeguarding. They implement effective policies and procedures to support this and protect children from harm.  Children are very settled and have close bonds with the childminder. As a result, children are extremely confident and keen to engage in activities.

p.1

This provision is good

 The childminder promotes children's independence very well. She encourages them to manage their own self-care when going to the bathroom and to get dressed to play outside. This prepares them well for when they move to school.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not always make best use of all the information provided by other settings about children's learning. For example, to complement her planning and provide a more consistent approach to children's learning.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities

 The inspector toured the areas of the home used for childminding.  The inspector observed activities and spoke to the childminder, her assistant and the children.  The inspector carried out a joint observation with the childminder.  The inspector looked at evidence of the suitability of the childminder and other adults in the household, children's assessment records and a sample of policies.  The inspector considered the views of parents provided through written feedback.

p.2

who attend. This is good

The childminder's home is attractive and welcoming to children. The childminder and her assistant support children as they play. For example, they show children how to use different size containers to measure and pour water. Children enjoy sharing their play with the childminder. They mix soil with water and anticipate what will happen next. This extends children's imaginative learning. The childminder completes assessments of the progress that children are making. She identifies any areas of learning that children fall behind with and focuses on these to help children move forward. This ensures that she prepares children well for their move to school. The childminder shares her observations and assessments with parents and encourages them to continue their child's learning at home.

p.3

good

Children are happy and enjoy their time with the childminder and her assistant. The security of routines and the flexibility to choose where and with what they want to play help them to feel secure. Children play and learn well together and their behaviour is very good. Children are supported to develop the skills that they need to adopt a healthy lifestyle. They are provided with nutritious meals and snacks each day. The childminder models good hygiene practices. This encourages children to wash their hands at appropriate times. The childminder's use of the extensive garden enables children to have fun as they practise their physical skills, such as climbing up the slide. The childminder helps children to learn how to keep themselves safe and they are encouraged to try new activities and have a go themselves, such as playing safely on the swings.

p.3

provision is good

The childminder has a secure knowledge of how to keep children safe. She reviews risks during activities and in the environment, and puts strategies in place to minimise them. The childminder regularly reflects on her practice and seeks the views of parents. Her effective arrangements for regular supervision and checking the performance of the assistant lead to high levels of consistency of practice. Furthermore, the childminder encourages the assistant to undertake relevant training. The childminder monitors the educational programmes as she uses guidance to assess children's achievements. This ensures she effectively addresses gaps in children's progress. The childminder has attended training to keep up to date with practice. This, combined with her experience, has a positive impact on the good quality of teaching.
