The setting meets legal requirements for early years settings

p.1

This provision is good

 Staff have a good knowledge of how to promote children's mathematical development. They provide children with many opportunities to solve problems and use mathematical language as part of their daily routines. As a result, children make good progress.  Staff use praise well to build children's confidence. Staff encourage children to 'have a go' and help them to develop a sense of achievement, which supports children's well- being.  Staff build strong bonds with parents and regularly share information about children's learning. Staff give ideas for parents to continue the learning at home.  Staff identify children with additional needs quickly and secure appropriate interventions at the earliest opportunity, which includes working with outside agencies when needed. This helps to close gaps in children's learning quickly.  Staff are deployed well and are always on hand to help children. This means that the

running of the day is smooth and well planned, which ultimately helps improve outcomes for children.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Staff do not always use every opportunity to further encourage children's independence skills.  Children who learn best through make-believe play do not always have a diverse range of resources available to them, particularly in the role play area.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

 ensure staff use every opportunity to further encourage children's independence skills, particularly during snack time  increase children's exposure to materials that encourage make-believe play, particularly in the role play area.

Inspection activities

 The inspector held discussions with parents and took account of their views. ? ?  The inspector spoke to the staff and children and talked about the activities undertaken.  The inspector reviewed a sample of the setting's documentation.  The inspector made a number of observations of activities, including undertaking a joint observation with the manager, and viewed the spaces, toys, resources and equipment available for children's use.  The inspector held discussions with the manager which covered methods for checking children's learning and progress, how the staff work with outside professionals and methods for evaluating the quality of the provision.

who attend. This is good

Staff ensure that they provide children with interesting and challenging activities that cover the areas of learning well. Most children are working comfortably within the typical range of development expected for their age. The level of teaching is good because staff have a good knowledge and understanding of how to promote children's learning. Children are interested and keen learners because staff value their ideas and question them skilfully to promote further learning. For example, staff support children to solve problems through trial and error, and to think of other ways to achieve their goal. As a result, children make good progress. Children are well prepared for the next stage in their learning and eventually for school. Staff support children who have additional needs well because they use accurate and clear observations and assessments that help identify gaps in children's learning at the earliest opportunity. These children make rapid progress and

good

Staff help children understand why it is important to wash their hands before meals and the importance of a healthy diet and exercise. Children generally behave well and are kind to each other because staff are good role models and help children understand what is expected of them. A thoughtful induction process with responsive and caring staff helps children feel happy, at ease and confident to explore. Children play in a safe environment because staff have a good understanding of safeguarding procedures and the setting is very secure. Children's good progress and the strong partnerships with schools ensure children are well prepared for the future.

p.3

provision is good

The manager has strong links with external agencies and quickly secures appropriate interventions for children that need them. Staff attend regular training sessions throughout the year because the manager recognises the importance of professional development and training as a way of improving outcomes for children. For example, all staff had extra training to help promote children's mathematical skills. This has directly improved staff's teaching. The manager has clear improvement plans and has the skills to implement them to help drive improvement. Staff implement policies and procedures consistently well because the manager ensures all staff have a good knowledge and understanding of them. Through supervision sessions and direct observations, she ensures that staff develop good teaching skills. The manager understands the safeguarding and welfare requirements well.
