p.1

This provision is good

 The childminder has a lovely relationship with the children in her care. They are happy and confident in her home and have a good sense of belonging.  The childminder has a very good understanding of the children's development and uses good teaching methods to help them make good progress in all areas of their learning.  The childminder has strong relationships with parents and the local pre-school. This provides consistency for the children in their development and the care that they receive.  The childminder spends time reflecting on the success of the way she works. As a result, she has improved the way she plans for and monitors children's development.  The childminder provides children with a safe home environment where they can explore and thrive. She assesses risks on a daily basis and deals with them promptly.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 There are limited opportunities for children that learn better outdoors to develop their early writing and literacy skills, and to observe and care for growing plants outside.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

who attend. This is good

The childminder provides children with a good range of toys and resources to support their learning and development. She ensures they are in easy reach for the children so that they can be independent and make choices. Young children enjoy sensory activities and exploring different textures. For example, they play with shredded paper and coloured rice. As a result, children are confident, excited and learn about how things feel. The childminder is nearby to offer support and makes good use of opportunities to repeat children's language and introduce new words. As a result, children make good progress with their communication and language skills. The childminder prepares children when they move on to pre-school or school. For example, she uses books to help them find out what it will be like. Consequently, children settle quickly into the new environments.

p.3

good

The childminder uses sensitive settling-in arrangements to suit the needs of the children and families. Consequently, children settle quickly and become familiar with the routine. The childminder is a very good role model for children. She sets clear boundaries which children happily meet. Children benefit from regular trips to playgroups where they develop their social skills. The childminder encourages a healthy lifestyle for the children that attend. They engage in physical play in the garden and at local soft-play centres. The childminder supports parents to bring a healthy packed lunch and talks to the children about why they need to eat vegetables. Children learn about healthy and unhealthy foods. The childminder praises children in everything they do. This builds their self-confidence and self-esteem.

p.3

provision is good

The childminder has a good understanding of safeguarding and knows the procedures to follow if she was concerned about a child. The childminder has detailed policies and procedures in place that she implements effectively to support her good practice. She shares these with the parents to provide them with more information about the service and to promote their understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage. The childminder regularly reviews the children's progress in their learning and shares this with their parents. This regular exchange of information about children's achievements contributes to their learning being supported at home. The childminder's effective assessment and planning result in children having good-quality care and learning opportunities throughout the day.
