These help to promote their well-being and independence and encourage them to explore their surroundings.  The childminder has a good understanding of how to keep children safe from potential and actual harm. She uses robust systems for dealing with any safeguarding concerns and has thought through what action she would need to take to protect and support

the children in her care.  The childminder is committed to providing children with a good standard of care and education. She uses a well-established programme of self-review to identify areas of practice that could be improved further.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not always make the most of opportunities to teach children about the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

who attend. This is good

The childminder has a secure understanding of how children learn through play. She accurately assesses children's progress over time through observations and she plans effectively for their next steps in learning. This ensures that children are appropriately challenged and make good progress in their development. For example, children acquire key skills for the future as they develop control and coordination when engaging in drawing activities with markers or chalk. The quality of the childminder's teaching is good. She interacts well with children. She joins in with their play and talks to them about what they are doing in order to promote their communication and language skills. The childminder skilfully sets up play experiences for children based on their current interests. As a result, children are motivated to explore their surroundings and learn important skills, such as how to share and take turns through 'tea-time' play scenarios.

p.3

good

The childminder establishes secure relationships with children. This promotes their sense of emotional well-being. Children approach the childminder with ease to ask questions or to seek comfort, which is readily offered. The childminder keeps children safe and teaches them to manage small risks, such as negotiating the step into the garden. She encourages them to try for themselves and she stands close by to offer support if needed. Consequently, children grow in confidence and independence. This prepares them well for the future. Children develop their physical skills when playing in the childminder's well- equipped garden or when dancing and playing musical instruments inside.

p.3

provision is good

The childminder has a good understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage requirements and how to help children make progress in all areas of learning. Parents receive regular feedback about their children's care and learning. They are encouraged to contribute to this process as the childminder shares children's observations and next steps in learning with them. The childminder has made good links with other childminders and playgroups in her area. She is prepared to take the children in her care further afield to seek out the best quality providers. The childminder regularly attends training to update her knowledge and skills. She has endeavoured to improve since her last inspection and this has resulted in more effective assessment procedures and a greater awareness of how to keep children safe. Effective self-review helps the childminder to maintain the quality of her provision and enables her to identify areas for further improvement.
