This provision is good
The childminder provides an exciting learning environment for children. They freely explore a wide range of good quality resources, which means they become independent leaners who make good progress and are fully prepared for their move to school. The childminder broadens children's learning by providing regular outings in the local community, such as visiting a wildlife park, the library and playgroups. Children thoroughly enjoy the childminder's interaction in their play. Children laugh and giggle as the childminder blows bubbles for them to chase, showing they have formed secure emotional relationships with her. The childminder meticulously reflects on the service she provides, taking into account the views of parents and children. She knows what is working well and what she can improve, to enhance the outcomes for children even further. The childminder fully understands her responsibilities to safeguard children. She

It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder's arrangements to engage parents in sharing information about their children's learning at home are not always successful. The childminder sometimes misses opportunities for children to learn about where food comes from.

Inspection activities
The inspector toured the premises and observed the childminder and children in the downstairs rooms of the house and the garden. The inspector spoke with the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector looked at a selection of children's records and policies, and checked evidence of the childminder's suitability and all people living on the premises. The inspector made observations of and discussed the outcome of a planned activity with the childminder. The inspector took account of the views of parents from written comments they had provided.

who attend. This is good
The childminder is confident in her teaching. She gives children time to explore on their own and knows when to join in to extend their learning. For example, she encourages children to count the number of pretend buns they make from play dough. This successfully supports children to develop their thinking skills and their early understanding of mathematics. The childminder constantly engages children in conversation. She encourages them to retell stories using props, such as a toy ark, figures and animals. As a result, children become confident communicators. Children develop their physical skills in the outdoor area through activities, such as scooping up sand and jumping from one stepping stone to another. Parents are informed about their children's day and their progress through verbal feedback and an electronic recording system. However, the childminder does not always encourage parents to share their children's achievements

good
Children settle extremely well and have positive relationships with the childminder. They know what is expected of them and enjoy the praise they receive for their efforts and achievements. Consequently, children behave well. The childminder skilfully teaches children about keeping safe. She provides them with suitable knives, so they can cut up their own fruit at snack time. She reminds them to stay sitting down as they use these. This means children successfully learn to manage risks. The childminder regularly attends the drop-in sessions at the local school nursery with children. This means children feel confident in their environment when they start attending the nursery. The childminder provides children with nutritious food. She takes them to the shops to choose fruit for their snack. However, she has not fully considered how children's understanding of food sourcing can be extended even further, such as growing their own fruit and vegetables in

provision is good
The childminder has a good understanding of the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage. She has a comprehensive set of policies and procedures which underpin her good practice and keep children safe. The childminder keeps a close check on how well children are progressing in their development. This means she can quickly identify and help close any gaps in their learning. Partnerships with other providers, with whom children's care is shared, are strong. This promotes good continuity in children's care and learning as they move between settings. The childminder shows a good commitment to extending her practice through training. She is currently undertaking an early years qualification at level 3 and attends short courses alongside this. She successfully implements the knowledge she gains from these courses, to raise the good quality of her teaching even further.
