p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not always provide opportunities for children to see print in the environment to enhance their early literacy.  The childminder does not always fully involve parents and other carers to find out more about children's achievements. This means that she does not always build on children's interests and learning from home and other settings to enhance their learning fully.

who attend. This is good

The childminder provides a good range of activities to promote children's learning. She plans a hand painting activity to enable children to explore through their senses. The childminder is nearby, to offer support and makes good use of opportunities to reinforce children's language and introduce new words. As a result, the quality of teaching is good. Children listen to and enjoy rhymes by joining in with actions, and imitate words and sounds they know. The childminder extends the activity by introducing musical instruments. As a result, children maintain a focus on the activity for a good period of time. Children develop their early number and writing skills through activities designed to capture their interest and improve their fine motor skills ready for starting school. The childminder regularly exchanges information with parents about children's progress and next steps in their learning to support home learning.

p.3

good

The childminder provides a safe and welcoming environment. Children choose from a good range of resources in all rooms that help them develop their independence. The childminder has positive relationships with the children and they enjoy her cuddles, praise and constant reassurance. She provides a cosy tent for children to rest in and look at books. Children have opportunities to be active and engage in physical play in the garden. They throw the ball to each other, which promotes their turn taking and cooperation. Children benefit from regular trips to the local park, library and toddler groups, which help to develop their social skills and confidence. The childminder talks to children about healthy eating when they help prepare their own lunch. Children develop self-help skills because the childminder encourages them to put on their own shoes and wash their hands. This prepares children well for their move to nursery.

p.3

provision is good

The childminder has a good knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage requirements. She understands how to keep children safe. She has attended safeguarding and first-aid training and has clear procedures to support children's health, safety and well-being. She reviews risks in the environment regularly to keep the home safe and secure. The childminder monitors the children's progress to make sure no child falls behind. She completes and shares the progress check for two-year-old children with parents and health professionals. Parents comment that they are happy with the service they receive. The childminder self-evaluates her practice. She has recently started to display her planning to help focus on the needs of individual children so she helps them make good progress.
