who attend. This is good

Children are happy and relaxed with this warm and friendly childminder. The childminder provides a wide range of resources to promote all areas of children's learning and development. Consequently, children make good progress and develop the skills needed for future learning. The childminder gives children lots of praise and encouragement. For example, she holds babies' fingers to help them learn to pull themselves up to try to take their first steps. Her input promotes babies' physical development well. Children build with bricks and the childminder encourages them to recognise the colours and shapes as they start to count and follow sequences. These opportunities encourage children's mathematical skills. The childminder reads books about animals with children. Children explore and touch the pictures. The childminder introduces words such as `rough' and `smooth' so that children learn about different textures and extend their vocabulary. This

promotes children's early reading skills as they further develop their language abilities.

good

The childminder tailors activities so that children of different ages learn to play together and build friendships. Therefore, she promotes children's personal, social and emotional development well. The childminder encourages children to share and take turns, for example, as they roll a ball backwards and forwards to each other. She talks to them about being gentle and kind so children learn about the feelings and emotions of others and how to manage their own behaviour. The childminder promotes children's independence and understanding of healthy lifestyles. Babies start to learn to feed themselves and the childminder talks about healthy foods as they play. The childminder promotes children's physical skills well. Children have opportunities daily for outdoor play in the garden and on visits to the local parks, farms and playgroups.

p.3

provision is good

The childminder has a good understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage. She shares information with parents about children's development and their daily routines. As a result, parents are informed of the activities in the setting and can extend children's learning at home. The childminder's home is safe, secure and hygienic for children. The childminder completes risk assessments, and all the required documentation is in place to promote children's safety and well-being. The childminder follows the Local Safeguarding Children Board guidelines and understands the procedures to follow if she has concerns about a child. The childminder evaluates her practice taking into account the views of parents, children and others. Therefore, she keeps up-to-date and sets challenging targets for the future to improve outcomes for children.
