p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Some of the resources in the well-stocked playroom are difficult for children to see and choose independently.  Although children enjoy regular outings, they do not have regular access to the garden which limits their spontaneous outdoor learning and development opportunities.

who attend. This is good

The childminder provides a wide range of exciting opportunities to meet children's interests and promote their development in all areas. During the inspection the children enjoyed playing with a plentiful selection of small toy vehicles. The childminder fully engaged and encouraged the children to talk about the vehicles, moving them in different ways, and consequently developing their language and physical skills. The childminder has a thorough understanding of child development and regularly observes children to help her identify their next steps of development. The play room is well resourced and children are able to access some toys independently. The childminder regularly shares information with parents about children's developmental achievements, including her observations and photographs of them as they play and learn.

p.3

good

The childminder effectively encourages children to join in with routines, such as tidying up and getting ready for outings. The childminder is enthusiastic and encourages children to persevere when trying new challenges and to make their own decisions, such as choosing when to eat snacks. Children are consistently encouraged to make healthy food choices and enjoy fruit. The childminder gives children the opportunity to take risks and takes time to explain potential outcomes, so they learn to stay safe. The children are happy and secure in the homely environment and also enjoy the regular opportunities to go on outings, including a local music group and the play park. The childminder has a good knowledge of child protection and has a thorough understanding of her responsibility to safeguard children.

p.3

provision is good

The childminder monitors all aspects of children's development well and plans the next steps in their learning to ensure they make good progress. The childminder has undertaken additional training which has enhanced her knowledge of food allergies and enabled her to provide safe food choices for children with special dietary requirements. The childminder evaluates her practice well and identifies and addresses areas for improvement. This has included a recent change to information sharing with parents which is more tailored to their individual needs. Since her last inspection, the childminder has communicated well with local pre-schools and is currently linking some of her activities to their themes. This promotes consistency in children's learning and development.
