This provision is good
The childminder establishes extremely strong attachments with children, which effectively promotes children's emotional and social development. As a result, children are highly content and confident, and behave very well. The childminder successfully promotes children's communication and language. She makes good use of open questions, such as those starting with 'why' and 'how', to extend children's thinking skills. Children enjoy their time at the setting because of the good range of low-level resources, which enables them to make independent choices in their play. The childminder implements effective safeguarding procedures, which promotes the safety and welfare of all children well. The childminder successfully reflects on her practice to identify strengths and areas for development. She is currently developing systems to support parents further in extending children's learning at home.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not consistently make the best use of all planned activities to provide additional opportunities that develop the more able children's physical skills. Although the childminder has good links with some other settings that children attend, she does not persevere in implementing a two-way flow of information when some do not respond to her initial contact.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

who attend. This is good
The childminder plans interesting activities that cover all areas of learning and interest children. For instance, they learn about the life cycle of a butterfly through a story and then decorate pictures to display. During this, children are able to choose from a good variety of resources to explore colour and texture and identify how best to stick items together. This helps to develop children's confidence to be creative, make choices and solve problems. However, the childminder does not always extend older children's physical skills by providing appropriate challenge through her planned activities. Nonetheless, she monitors their achievements and recognises suitable next steps that help all children make good progress in their learning. Children are able to recognise letters and numerals in their environment, demonstrating good literacy and numeracy skills. Partnerships with parents are effective in enabling consistent learning opportunities at home and at the setting.
p.3
outstanding
The childminder provides an exceptionally warm and welcoming environment. She has photographic cards to represent the broad range of resources that are available. This expertly helps to build the confidence of new children to make choices in their play as they settle in. The childminder continuously praises children's achievements, which increases their self-esteem and motivation, and encourages very positive behaviour. Consequently, children clearly understand the boundaries and expectations and ensure others also follow them. For example, while having lunch at the dining table, children confidently instruct the pet dog to stay in the other room. The childminder develops children's independence highly effectively through daily routines such as encouraging children to take themselves to the toilet and to try to open food packages at lunchtime. This all prepares children very well for school and enhances their personal, social and emotional development.
p.3
provision is good
The childminder is successful in her promotion of children's welfare, learning and development because she has a robust understanding of her responsibilities. She promotes children's safety well and teaches them how to keep themselves safe, such as when crossing roads and in the event of a fire. Since the last inspection, the childminder has completed a level 3 qualification and developed effective systems to evaluate her provision. She regularly attends additional training to enhance her professional development. For instance, she now uses 'busy bags' to initiate short activities in the event of gaps in the daily routine. The childminder communicates well with some other settings that children attend, but does not always follow up when she does not hear back to ensure continuity in children's care and learning.
